Response Writing on Authorities

Authority is an acceptable among a group of people related by race, nationality, or occupation. Such groups of people unanimously agree to follow the dictates of the authority and are therefore obliged to pay allegiance to the authority. Depending on type of authority, subjects of the authority follows the provisions of the authority by virtue of being a subject or as long as the authority is rational, just and beneficial to them.

I consider the Legal-Rational authority to be legitimate because the authority is established through mutual agreement to serve the interest of the subjects. Any legal-rational authority is defined by written laws, rules and regulations agreeable to the majority of the citizens, or group of people within a legitimate system. Legal-Rational authority vests power on a rational system or ideology and not the person who implements the dogmas of the authority. In other words the focus authority lays with an office, not the officer so that a person is authorized to transact business only when he/she occupies the offices. I obey this authority because its overall goal is the best good for the most majority. In other words the authority is implemented within the principle of utilitarianism. It is established through reasoning, and consideration of interest of all members of the society. Its provisions are thus considerate, just and fair for all. Legal-rational authority has power over me in various ways including prescribing my human rights, and defining the things that I can do, where I can do them, and when I can do them while at the same time defining things which I cannot do as I wish. In a nut shell, Legal-Rational authority is used within the confines of the law which are made know to everyone and expected to be held by all citizens, and government institutions.
