Answer

Introduction

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) play a crucial part in the United States healthcare environment.  In reality, APRNs usually have a Master’s of Science in Nursing degree (MSN). Some APRNs holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in one or more of their four recognized positions (McCauley et al., 2020). APRN practice enables registered nurses to engage in a more concentrated nursing care area on a more independent scale. The growing role of APRNs in providing comprehensive healthcare services across the United States is essential. After reviewing the vital positions of APRNs, this paper describes the discoveries of an interview with a licensed APRN at Palmetto General Hospital. The interview covers a variety of topics and questions concerning his position and qualifications.

Description of the Interview

The APRN who was interviewed was Keith Robinson. He works as an NP urologist at Palmetto General Hospital. Robinson decided to become an APRN after having a strong interest in the nursing field. He has often desired to have a more independent effect on healthcare practice since beginning his nursing profession. Robinson also loves exploring new knowledge in the healthcare sector and, as a result, did not wait to explore his interest in urology. Robinson identifies himself as a Urology Nurse Practitioner at the present healthcare facility, where he serves as a practicing APRN. The title is fitting since it specifies the scope of activities in which he is permitted to participate.

As an individual with a strong passion for nursing, Robinson encourages many qualities in his career role.  His three main areas of strength are improved effective communication, humility, and awareness. Robinson perfected the art of patient contact after working as a licensed nurse for over ten years. Robinson served as an RN in several healthcare facilities, engaging with a wide range of patients. This integrative interaction allowed him to hone his communication skills while also cultivating strong compassion for patients. Robinson’s understanding of urology is the essential asset he brings to the table.

In terms of professional credentials, Robinson had to go through a stringent assessment process to be fully licensed as a Urology Nurse Practitioner (UNP). Professionally, all UNPs must be evaluated by the Certification Board for Urologic Nurses and Associates (CBUNA) (Wheeler, & Schumann, 2018). Robinson had to pass a rigorous test of 175 questions. To pass, the test an applicant must demonstrate expertise in all essential areas of urology. Furthermore, the evaluation addresses both theoretical and functional dimensions of urology practice. The evaluation procedure is not exhaustive.

Robinson maintains that he is the best choice for the job because of his wealth of expertise and competence in urology. In addition to his knowledge and academic credentials, Robinson’s unique attributes make him a strong choice for the job. These include improved mental stability, interpersonal skills, and physical stamina. Robinson leads to patients’ well-being in a variety of ways as his experience and skills improve. Robinson, in particular, favors the patient-centered model of healthcare. He states that meeting the individual needs of his patients allows him to affect consumer interactions. Robinson also uses evidence-based principles and practices to inspire his nursing practice. This clinical model will enable him to assess and treat his patients using evidence-based approaches. Finally, Robinson discussed ethics and how he does it. In the case of unethical actions, Robinson responds by pointing to the nursing practice standards of ethics. He answers the particular ethical issues posed by the scenario by referring to the applicable codes.

In her/his present setting, is an advanced practice role accepted and respected?

The Nurses association in Florida plays an active role by ensuring that all nursing students are thoroughly trained before being accredited. The Nurse Practice Act (NPA) of Florida is explained in Chapter 464 of the state’s procedural laws (Tovino, 2017). According to the Act, every nursing practitioner who wishes to provide services in Florida must meet a set of minimum standards to encourage safe practices in medical service provision

Barriers experienced in his clinical practice area

Nurse Practitioner (NP), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Certified Nurse Specialist (CNS), and Registered Nurse Anesthetist (RNA) are the four foundations of advanced practice, according to Robinson (CRNA). Any licensed nurse who wishes to advance their medical field career can choose from one of four vast fields (Wheeler, & Schumann, 2018). Stress and pressure are common occurrences in his field of work. He copes with his stress and pressure by discussing the problem with his coworkers. Furthermore, cases of dispute can arise in the course of service. Robinson handles disputes by avoiding future conflicts and, where necessary, using a mediator.

Professional issues that are of concern on the local, state, or national level

Aside from CBUNA certification, Keith had to obtain additional licensing qualifications before employment at the healthcare company. All APRNs must have NPI details, which are required to track the national profile of registered nurses. The practitioner must also be well-versed in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Conclusion

The advanced practice nurse has a wide range of responsibilities. One is distinct and vital to the nursing field and the healthcare sector as a whole. Although each job has its own set of obligations, they all face various challenges in their daily work. We must become trained and knowledgeable about these issues and rise to the role of leaders in the field to effect substantive change that eventually enhances care for our health professionals.
