Answer
Are there Moral Facts?
Psychologically, there are moral facts. The ‘belief-desire’ theory effect makes it obvious to understand how moral facts can exist, and where in human psychological make-up they can be perceived. Facts correlate to the realm of human reasoning. One does not feel a fact but believes in it as being a case. It is a fact that there are moral principles which direct a person’s behavior. At an individual level, one decides whether to take up moral facts or not. If the moral principles governing human behavior and actions are violated individually, it is an indication that an individual has acted in an immoral way. Moral facts define human behavior and only through them can one distinguish morality from immorality. They align to human thoughts and personal desires. The theory of conscience claims human beings contain a faculty that has the potentiality to recognize if certain actions are right or wrong, good or evil. The analogy speaks directly of what is referred to as facts.
Basing on Hume’s ‘belief-desire’ theory, human actions have been ingeniously analyzed including the moral actions. These are acts that are described as either right or wrong. Hume argues that every individual can fully account for all actions in terms of a two factor interplay: reason and belief. Human actions contain the capacity to desire to do something. Human nature is that people have different desires which initiate a course of action. Reason allows one to undertake an action. Reason is a slave of the passions. According to a moral realist, human beings can readily consult their moral facts as their course of action. Following these views, moral actions which align to human actions can be readily accounted for by both reason and desire.
