Answer

Contemporary Nursing

According to my perspective and understanding, person-centered care is an approach of thinking that perceives individuals using health and social services as equivalent in preparing, expanding, and scrutinizing care to ensure it addresses individual’s needs. This signifies placing individuals and their relatives at the center of decision and considering them as experts, operating with professionals to attain the most excellent outcome. Person-centered care not only centers on offering individuals anything they desire or giving information (Fix et al., 2018). It also considers an individual’s desires, values, family circumstances, social situations, and lifestyle; considering a person as an individual and collaborating to develop practical solutions. Moreover, person-centered care incorporates being compassionate, considering things from an individual’s point of view, and being respectful (Fix et al., 2018). This may be depicted through incorporating patients in decision-making and assisting them in managing their wellbeing. Nevertheless, person-centered care is not all about actions and procedures. It is more about the manner healthcare providers and patients think regarding care and their interaction as the definite services accessible.

As a nurse practitioner, there are different approaches I can consider to pertain to the ideology of holistic nursing, cultural humility, and self-reflection. According to Hughes et al. (2020), holistic care is an approach of providing support that looks at the whole person, not just their healthcare needs. In my nursing profession, I will apply this approach by recognizing the “whole patient” through interrelating with patients and colleagues in a careful and considerate approach. I will appraise patients holistically through open dialogue and distinguish prospective stress aspects that impact the patient’s wellbeing.  Regarding cultural humility, I will endorse for counselor knowledge concerning different cultures and cultural perspective, counselor skills to use culturally appropriate measure, and counselor awareness of individual’s cultural heritage and the impact of the culture on beliefs, encounters, and beliefs. Lastly, regarding self-reflection, various opportunities can prompt reflection including team meetings. Team meetings and researching with other healthcare professionals concerning critical incidents or near misses including good practice and lessons learned are essential in enhancing self-reflection in my future responsibility as a nurse practitioner.
