Answer

Cyclical Literature Review and Search Strategy

Q 7.a: Cyclical or Iterative Nature of Literature Review

The term cyclic nature or iterative nature of a literature review denotes the repetitive process through which a researcher undertakes cycles of operations or rounds of assessment while making inquiry into a research question (Herr & Anderson, 2014). This concept is relevant to the literature review writing process since it provides a guide through which desirable results can be achieved. Using this concept, different literature can be assessed and evaluated in order to retain the most relevant and useful. This way, the concept of iterative nature helps prepare a consistent and well-rounded literature review.

Q7.b Searching Information on Proposed Dissertation Topic

The terms that could be used in a search engine to generate a list of potential scholarly sources include; work-life balance, United Nations (UN), employees, and non-family duty stations.

The following are the reference list generated by my search:

Almalki, M. (2012). Quality of Work Life and Turnover Intention in Primary Healthcare Organizations: A Cross-Sectional Study of Registered Nurses in Saudi Arabia. (Doctoral Dissertation for Queensland University).

Conaway, C. P., Shoemaker, J., Adams-Alwine, A., & Park, J. (2008). Women in United Nations Peace Operations: Increasing the Leadership Opportunities. Women in International Security, Georgetown University.

Fagan, C., Lyonette, C., Smith, M., & Saldaña-Tejeda, A. (2012). The influence of working time arrangements on work-life integration or’ balance’: a review of the international evidence. Geneva: ILO. (Dissertation paper presented to ILO)

Fratczak, E. (2013). Childbearing, women’s employment and work-life balance policies in contemporary Europe. London: Springer.

Haar, J. M., Roche, M., & Brummelhuis, L. (2017). A daily diary study of work-life balance in managers: utilizing a daily process model. The International Journal of Human Resource Management, 1-23.

Phuong, P. (2008). Balancing Work and Family Roles. Doctoral Thesis for University of South Australia).

Saraceno, C. (2008). Gender and care: old solutions, new developments? The International Journal of Human Resource Management, 1-31.

Sirgy, M. J., & Lee, D. J. (2018). Work-life balance: An integrative review. Applied Research in Quality of Life, 13(1), 229-254.

Phrase searching strategy was the most successful approach that yielded valid academic sources as listed above. The strategy entailed identifying key words and following an organized structure using the key terms and inserting them into the GCU library database. This approach helped in retrieving accurate results after which I skimmed and selected the most applicable sources.
