It is important to evaluate and reflect on the evidence used by the authors (evidence in the book for UNIT 4 include studies of countries, personalities, clubs / competitions, national and ethnic traditions, dates, contested politics, etc.). Answer

“Gaming the World”: A Critical Review

Andrei Markovits and Lars Rensmann are sport analysts born in 1948 and 1970 respectively. They have worked comprehensively on comparative sports culture in deferent countries which qualifies them to write on the subjects of the book. I do not detect any biases that undermine their validity in the development of the themes because of their hypothesis that suggests how global sports materialized from local pastimes in Britain, Canada, and America during the Twentieth century and how division in the sector continues to grow due to regionalism.

The specific phrase that highlights their point of view is “Analyzing the continuities and changes that have characterized sports cultures in the United States and Europe, we find complex processes involving global transformations alongside persistent local and national factors” (Markovits and Rensmann 29). The evidences they used help explain and support the claims the authors make because they contribute to the proper exploration of the complex interaction between local and global sports demonstrating how they have contributed to the shared internal interests.

In the contrary, the feminization of the global sport cultures cannot be blamed for the simultaneous departure of male sport professionals from the industry and does not lead to a diminished status and prestige. According to research, the growing participation of women in sports can be termed as revolutionary (Markovits and Rensmann 163). The best example is a woman’s boxing which has since grown into a major sport in the industry. Women from different age groups and social classes are increasingly consuming and taking part in sport. According to research, professional sport has grown in importance for women as their experiences and expectations of them have also changed (Pope 38). These views are different from those of Gaming The World as they portray women as crucial to the sport world unlike the latter that associates them with the diminished prestige as status of sport in general.

Hence, as a college scholar, Gaming the World has had a crucial impact by changing my perceptions of football and sport including how important women are in their global reach. Firstly, women are increasingly joining sports. Secondly, women sports are increasingly growing in status as those of men. And lastly, women have entered the traditional male domain in sport resulting in intersectionality in the sector.
