Information Security Organizations

Joining one of the several professional organizations committed to the field of information security is considered a significant step for individuals considering a career in this field (The Balance Careers, 2018; Andress, 2011; Gregory, 2015). In relation to this, the three organizations within the information security field that I would like to join in the future are International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium ((ISC)2 ),  Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), and Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP). My preference for these organizations is based on the fact that they provide excellent ways of staying current on cutting-edge issues and enhances a professional’s network with his or her information security peers.

As an information security professional, being a CISO happens to be the pinnacle position among my long-term career goals. According to Alfred and Sait (2014), SearchSecurity (n.d.), and Gregory (2015), information security professional, who desire to be Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in the future, should focus on the acquisition of well-rounded skills in areas such as in-depth comprehension of information security matters, people management, and leadership among others. Therefore, my selection of the three information security organizations was informed by their ability to enable me to gain well rounded skills needed for the role or position of CISO. Apart from being a CISO, my long-term career goals also focus on partnering with industry experts in establishing robust remedies for global information security challenges, and establishing new information security technologies for governments, communities, corporations, and governments among others. The three organizations are global and have their members drawn from information technology professionals across the world (The Balance Careers, 2018). As such, by joining these organizations I will be able to network with a pool of qualified IT professionals, who will be resourceful to the realization of my long-term career goals.

In conclusion, three of my preferred information security organizations are. I robustly believe that these organizations will play a vital role in the attainment of my long-term career goals, which are focused on being a CISO, partnering with other industry experts in finding robust solutions to global information security issues, and developing novel Information Security technologies for corporations, and governments, communities among others.
