    1. QUESTION

I would like you to improve my Instrumentation. My professor is asking me to use a tool for this research that is already established. She told me to check other research work and check for tools. Tools like Pain Scale, Edinburg tool to assess Depression score. But these are not applicable in my research. Please help me find one applicable for my research, Thanks!

    Instrumentation

The researcher hypothesizes that bariatric surgery will result to remission of diabetic symptoms on patients with Type 2 Diabetes.. The physical and clinical data consist of BMI, HbAIC, blood glucose, and medication usage (oral or SQ Insulin).

One of the tools used for the study will be a demographic survey that will be used to identify the age, gender, ethnicity/race and other pertinent data like BMI, HbAIC, blood glucose and medication usage (oral or SQ Insulin) before surgery and six months after surgery.  The participants will be followed for six months.  SEE Appendix B.

The other set of tool that will be used is a follow-up questionnaire 6 months post- surgery to re-assess the BMI, HbAIC, blood glucose and medication usage.  The data  (HbAIC , BMI) obtained from the participants will be compared against the national clinical standards data taken from AMERICAN Diabetes Association  SEE Appendix C. PLEASE ATTACH

At the end of the study, a Patient Satisfaction Survey tool was administered to gauge the patient’s overall satisfaction with the research study. SEE Appendix D.

The data collected for this research included demographic data such as patient age, gender, race, physical and clinical data consisting of BMI, HbAIC, blood glucose, and medication usage (oral or SQ Insulin).

One of the tools used for the study will be a demographic survey that will be used to identify the age, gender, ethnicity /race. The Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) was used to assess the BMI and weights of the patients before surgery and six months after surgery. Another tool used is the HbAIC measurement in blood before and after surgery as a marker of disease remission. Measurement of fasting blood glucose was also used. In order to evaluate the accuracy and administration performance of the anti-diabetic medication, the Medication Administration Safety Assessment (MASAT) tool was used. The results of this tools were taken after patients were followed up for six months.

Follow up data collection to reassess the BMI, HbA1c, fasting blood glucose and medication usage were done using the tools mentioned above. The data before the surgery and medication were analyzed individually and then later comparisons were made with the analyzed data six months after surgery. These data (HBA1C, fasting blood sugar and BMI) were then compared against the national clinical standards data taken from the American Diabetes Association. SEE Appendix C. PLEASE ATTACH
