While it means that everything is okay in America, its use could be offensive in some European countries such as Germany. Maintaining eye contact can be used to communicate aspects such as interest, concentration, hostility, and affection among others. Maintaining steady eye contact with a speaker shows a sense of concentration and interest. The way individuals sit, stand, or walk communicates much about a person. For instance, the posture of an individual can show if they are restless or not.

Non-verbal gestures and cures are important in a clinical setting. It is an essential aspect of patient-centered care. For instance, patients are encouraged when health professionals nod their heads suggesting that they are listening attentively. Patients feel comfortable when having a conversation with health practitioners who maintain an open and relaxed posture. A good gesture should show willingness to listen and a non-judgmental attitude from the practitioners. It is important for health practitioners to sit when they can, but they can also lean forward to indicate that they are engaged to the concerns of the patient. Thus, it makes a patient feel free to communicate all necessary information concerning the illness.
