 Laws of Unmanaged Time

All leaders are humans, whether female or male and are constrained by the need for food, sleep or personal care. Due life challenges, the leaders just like other human beings at times people experience family problems, financial difficulties and daily pressures. On the same vein, spiritual leaders believe that God has accorded them adequate time to finish all their divine works. Although there are computerized calendars, schedulers, and notes across the world that assist people to manage their public life every day, spiritual leaders continue to struggle with managing their divine activities. However, solving these problems encompasses adhering to laws of unmanaged time recommended by Per MacDonald recommended. Therefore, this paper identifies and explains laws of unmanaged time and how leaders can follow examples of the Christ to better manage time.

Law #1: Weaknesses and Managed Time

              This law states that unmanaged time flows towards a person’s weakness. Most people including MacDonald fail to establish a mission sense in their early years of their work and instead becomes ruthless with their weak points. Just like MacDonald, most people including spiritual leaders usually allocate much time making things that they hardly know how to do. However, the truth is that there are myriad of distinct activities in the sense of efficiency. Currently, there are thousands of Christian leaders who openly admit that they spend much of their time doing things that they are second best at. This is the same case with MacDonald who spent almost 75% of his time attempting to control and significantly little time studying and organizing to deliver a good sermon during his early childhood (MacDonald, 2017).

The unseized time tend to flow in the direction of relative weakness. Because of this, MacDonald was aware that he could preach an acceptable sermon with a little training. As shown in the text, he was doing relatively less than in the pulpit (MacDonald, 2017). Clearly, this is exactly what happens when a leader fails to evaluate the stated scenario case and does radical things. This explains why everyone does something radical in the course of their life. Jesus had to assist many sensitive non-professionals who were determined to endure what was happening around them and to show them how they were wasting their potentials. Precisely, He spoke to his disciples and informed them that the only thing they should do in life is to be concerned about the day and hours they have in this world. He also advised them not to concentrate on busy bodies and things they encounter in their daily lives. While this preaching of Jesus is challenging from the first insight, leaders including the spiritual leaders should desist from talking about every decision and expressing their views in almost every issue happening around them if they want to become better leaders in the society. As a fact, spiritual leaders should retreat and put everything in God’s hands. This idea worked for MacDonald who fully trusted his administrative pastor and directed most of his energy towards the things he would most likely perform effectively.

Law#2: Unseized Time and Dominant People

             One of the known spiritual laws according to MacDonald is that God loves everyone and has plans regarding everyone’s life (MacDonald, 2017). Essentially, both women and men who fail to manage their time find themselves being overpowered by others or externalities. Given that such persons do not set their time and budgets, they will find that those adhering to this law are controlling the world by planning and prioritizing for them. A major example of Christ that leaders should copy to become effective leaders is the case where Jesus advises people to seek the Lord in every activity of their lives. Even in difficult situations, the leaders should put God first in timing. As described by MacDonald in his book the Ordering your private world, the young preacher discovered that time was poorly organized. He had control of anyone who wanted to visit him or those who would invite him for coffee or meeting. Given that he had a disorganized calendar, it was difficult for him to reject such invitations because as a young man, he wanted to please everyone (MacDonald, 2017). However, this not only deprived him off his best time but also the chance to have a better family as he could not accord them the precious time they needed. This example clearly informs leaders across the world that should manage their time better by being in the front line when it comes to managing time as this is the only way to have a successful life around leadership and to become better leaders.

Law #3: Unseized Time and Emergencies

             According to this law, unseized time surrenders to the needs of all emergencies. MacDonald advises people to remember that not everything that produce loudest sound are the most urgent ones (MacDonald, 2017). The law implies that any leadership responsibility either in a family, profession or in human belief is often surrounded with occasions that cannot exist without close attention.  In most situations, people desire to get the attention of a single person. Precisely, each commission and committee would prefer the person number one to be present in their conferences even when they do not want to hear views or opinions of “the person number one”. Similarly, many people in any problem often prefer approaching the number one leader directly instead of following the hierarchy outlined in the organization. This implies that the emergencies that are not often in individuals’ plans can play a critical role in planning for time and setting priorities for the future. As a fact, such happenings cannot be foretold and unseized time for it can be considered lost. Therefore, spiritual leaders should always proclaim to the followers about the time used and time wasted.

Law #4: Unseized Time and Public Acclamation

             This law according to MacDonald states that unseized time is often invested in issues that attract public acclamation (MacDonald, 2017). As humans, people are more likely to spend much of their unbudgeted time on issues that will bring most direct and excellent praise. For instance, as described by MacDonald in his book ordering your private world, when the author and his wife took the marriage vow, they received lots of invitations to banquets and conferences of all kinds in case they were ready to sing duets and solo (MacDonald, 2017). It was good for them to receive earnest applause and win popularity. Sadly, music was never their priority but preaching and pastoral care were. Typically, this is the case with most of the contemporary young preachers and leaders as they tend to make people hear specific things they want to hear. Spiritual leaders should try to attract people with things that people prefer doing. However, every time such leaders get an opportunity to attract the masses, they tend to focus on preaching techniques and recommendations as opposed to what people prefer doing.

            MacDonald stated, “We shall enforce that decision on our family life everywhere and not when I made a wrong choice” (MacDonald, 2017, pg. 101). This statement shows that spiritual leaders are supposed to go across the country preaching and not through the street to hear the hurting truth. These leaders should understand the painful truth and should take their time in everything they do to avoid regretting the disorganized individuals they become at times. Just like Jesus Christ, they should formulate effective initiatives and reach out to everyone.

            In conclusion, the laws of unmanaged times that MacDonald postulated address human weakness, emergencies, dominant people in our lives, as well as, public acclamation. Each of them clearly reveals that individuals can successfully manage their time without necessarily having others interrupting their time. However, there are some individuals who still find it challenging to adhere to these spiritual laws. Interestingly, a person can read these critical elements and organize their time perfectly. As such, a person will find himself or herself referring to these laws when faced with different situations or events. The fact that there are millions of people who use schedulers, computerized calendars and notes to assist them organize their public and daily lives implies that humans are overburdened and overwhelmed daily without any major rest. Regarding managing time on a spiritual level, time is never a major issue and everything that we can achieve in our lives will be achieved through the Lord’s perfect timing. God has always planned and instructed humans to set aside a day for resting. He rested after his creation and expects us to manage our time effectively and this implies setting aside a day for resting.
