I support the proposed Health Care Improvement Act of 2020 because of the manner in which it cares for the health of the American families. The bill is a crucial legislation that should be supported because it aligns with the health needs of the American families, especially the new moms.
The proposed Health Care Improvement Act of 2020 is expected to expand Medicaid eligibility for new moms. Specifically, it allows all states to provide new mothers with up to 12 months of postpartum Medicaid eligibility (Warner, 2020). Such a vital advantantage will be a benefit not only for the mothers but also for the newborns. Mothers require the best health services in the immediate months after giving birth. I have personally witnessed how new moms have to struggled to pay for the costs of healthcare if the coverage has surpassed the months stated. The proposed bill will thus, be instrumental in ensuring decreased rates of maternal deaths and reduced post-partum stress for new moms who cannot cope with healthcare costs.
Opponents to my position would argue that the proposed law would place a strain on the citizens, because it would mean more allocations of resources towards Medicaid to be able to provide these additional services to new moms. Their argument would be purely from a financial angle (Cooper, 2020). However, I would address my opponents’ position by giving them a cost-benefit analysis of the bill. The benefits that it provides to American families are more than the disadvantages. For instance, it ensure better health for new moms and their newborns. As such, the future of the united states would be well secured with the passage of the proposed Health Care Improvement Act of 2020.
