Discussion: Literature Searches
An important step in the EBP process is reviewing the current body of literature to better understand the subject or topic in which you are interested. By conducting a review of the literature, you are building foundational knowledge about the topic; later, you can use this background to build new insights. Developing a strong grasp of a topic can only be garnered by taking the time to thoroughly search for relevant information and resources. For this Discussion, you will practice searching the literature to find evidence on a specific topic.
To prepare:
Choose a simple search term(s) relating to a topic of your PICOT question.
Review the information on the evidence hierarchy discussed in Chapter 2 of the course text, in the article, “Facilitating Access to Pre-Processed Research Evidence in Public Health,” and in the multimedia presentation “Hierarchy of Evidence Pyramid,” found in this week’s Learning Resources.
Review the information on the Walden Library’s website, “Levels of evidence.” Take a few minutes to explore the different types of databases available for each level of evidence and focus on the meaning of filtered and non-filtered resources.
Conduct a literature search in the Walden Library on your selected topic using the databases that you reviewed. Use at least one database for each of the three levels of filtered information and at least one unfiltered database. Record the number of hits that you find at each level of the hierarchy of evidence.
Select one article from the results at each level of the hierarchy. Compare the articles based on the quality and depth of information. What would be the value of each resource if you were determining an evidence-based practice?whatever subject they choose for discussion, they need to use that for the course project as well
and that course project has 3 parts, I will send the rest of it too

Answer
Literature Searches
While doing my research, I first familiarized myself with water filter, unfiltered means and gathered background information and the levels of evidence pyramid to aid me in locating the specific articles from the Walden University Library. My PICO question is; For patients in nursing homes (P) is the use of Chlorhexidine (I) compared to alcohol-based rubs (C) more effective in the prevention of hospital-acquired infections (O) within one week (T)? The keywords I used are chlorhexidine in hospital infections, alcohol-based rubs in hospital infections, and hospital-acquired infections.
Three Levels of Evidence and their comparison
Upon assessing the three levels of evidence that is filter, unfiltered, and background information I noticed that the filtered level gave me the most reliable and credible sources. The background and unfiltered information databases had few, poor, and unreliable. In evidence-based research the reliability of the results depends largely on good resources and the researcher’s ability to identify outstanding research topics/databases and correctly analyze data correctly. The methods of research also aid in dictating the simplicity of difficulties of identifying reliable sources for the research topic (Polit & Beck, 2017).
Comparison of article
The articles in the Cochrane database were more descriptive with bulky information than other sites such as Joann Briggs Institute of EBP database which had few number of resources that were not focused with regards to chosen topic.
For instance, the article Evidence-based practice in nursing & healthcare: A guide to best practice offers a guide on the general facts and conclusions about the use of unfiltered articles used in Evidence-based practice. An article obtained from the EBSCOhost Medline database indicated that there is a decline in cases of hospital infection when chlorhexidine is used.
