Answer

Organizational Change and Ethical-Legal Influences in Advanced Practice Nursing

Organizational change forms a critical component of nursing practice given the extent to which it influences outcomes to meet standards of healthcare. The need for organizational change is informed by evolving norms and values in society, especially those that yield higher expectations for access to healthcare, improved patient experience and increased patient engagement in decisions of care. Implementation of organizational change in the practice of advanced nursing provides significant benefits, including expanding the scope of evidence-based practice and focusing care on patients (Usman, 2020). The imperatives of the advanced nursing practice lie on how modern approaches to care can be implemented to improve healthcare outcomes and in organizational change adoption of new technologies such Electronic Health Records, increasing nursing training and building of practice on effective leadership contributes to improved patient experience and care outcomes.

The practice of advanced nursing must take into account the contributions and influences of ethical and legal requirements. It is the mandate of nurses to ensure that care processes fall within the legal and ethical requirements of nursing especially focusing on the principles of beneficence, justice, accountability, autonomy, fidelity and integrity (Grace, 2017). The ethical-legal influences on advanced nursing practice contribute to patient-centred approaches to care, improve fairness in the distribution of resources and allows patients to form the core of clinical decisions. Advanced nursing practises adhering to ethical-legal considerations understand that patient autonomy is crucial besides the need to promote beneficence factor in care.

Different leadership styles can be employed to improve the management of organizational change depending on the expected goals. The implementation of organizational change and management in the nursing environment, however, can achieve significant leverage with the deployment of transformational leadership style. Using transformational leadership style in advanced nursing practice to introduce change provide opportunities for talent development and professional growth, the establishment of respectful relationships critical in implementing, the motivation of nurses to perform and bring ideas as part of improving practices and satisfactions (Usman, 2020). It allows training of nurses to further understanding of legal and ethical concerns when dealing with patients.

Ethical theories or principles in nursing define consideration of practice that promote better healthcare outcomes including beneficence, accountability, justice and autonomy. Recent developments in nursing emphasis on adherence to these principles; beneficence describing the act of doing good and the right thing for the patient. Nursing practices built on justice demonstrate fairness in the distribution of care. The nurse is legally and ethically bound to act fairly, justly and equitably in the distribution of care among groups of patients. Accountability implies nursing approaches that acknowledge responsibilities for actions, while fidelity demonstrates the act of keeping promises in practice (Grace, 2017).

Practice guidelines in nursing define aspects which are routinely incorporated to patient care. Clinical practice guidelines vary depending on the area of advanced practice within the nursing environment, but they are meant to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of care. Guidelines provide directions to nurses, and they may include a definition of hand hygiene measures to reduce infections, sterilization of equipment and guidelines for home parenteral nutrition which focuses on providing information that supports patient education, support, formulation and monitoring of regimens to patient nutrition (Woodward & Umberger, 2016). These guidelines are critical in the prevention of malpractices, such as negligence.
