Answer

This capstone project’s PICOT is, “Does providing medical practitioners with education regarding hand hygiene minimize hospital acquired infections’ (HAIs) incidence in adult inpatients?” The measurable outcomes for my capstone project intervention include the following:

  1. To investigate the cost-effectiveness of educating medical practitioners with regard to the benefits of hand hygiene in curbing HAIs. Platform usage will be traced and compared to establish how education of medical practitioners will assist patients, while simultaneously minimizing the burden upon health care system.
  2. To offer examples of alternative forms of hand hygiene and institute an ad hoc committee to assess what is in existence and what should be improved. The ad hoc committee will ensure that the alternative forms of hand hygiene are properly adhered to by medical practitioners and patients alike (Haverstick et al., 2017), and that patients are also educated on how to minimize the rising HAIs’ incidence rate (Murni et al., 2015).
  • To determine what can better be done to curb the rising incidence of HAIs for people with terminal and chronic illnesses, like COVID-19 and diabetes. Techniques, like handwashing using alcohol-based hand rubs and using soap as well as using antibiotics (Haverstick et al., 2017), can be explored both for patients and medical practitioners.
  1. To outline self-management strategies for HAIs goals for the program, educational apparatus. As opposed to completely focusing on education as the panacea for HAIs’ incidence that is on the rise, other approaches like patients’ hand hygiene, education, and awareness could be explored (Murni et al., 2015).
  2. To comprehend barriers and limitations to education programs through analysis. By understanding the barriers and limitations of the efficacy of education with regard curbing HAIs would help medical practitioners know better strategies to employ to reduce HAIs’ incidence (Haverstick et al., 2017).

In short, the measurable outcomes from the PICOT will be about efficacy of self-management programs, effectiveness and efficiency of education protocols, HAIs’ incidence, tools that can be employed to tackle HAIs’ incidence.
