This paper discusses three performance enhancement skills that are applicable to each of three performance domains discussed in the course including high risk occupation, performing arts, and business. The areas covered under each performance domain are the reason why each skill chosen stands out and modifications that might be required to enhance the maximal effectiveness of the skill in the domain concerned. These areas are covered under the following subheadings.

High-Risk Occupation Domain

Emotional Control, mental toughness, and relaxing are among the skills needed to enhance performance in high risk domain. In high-risk domain, emotional control is significant in ensuring effectively regulate their impulses and feelings when confronted by risky or threatening situations, which in turn contributes to effective decision-making (Hays, 2009). This skill can be modified for effectiveness by focusing on measures such as exposure to fear situations to minimize unwanted emotions, and embracing stress inoculation measures such as coping imagery, and self-instructions. The significance of mental toughness in high risk domain lies in the fact that it ensures consistency of outcomes despite individuals working or operating in threatening situations. This skill can be modified by embracing self-regulating strategies such as going outside for fresh air, little exercising, or indulging in detachment for a few minutes when the stress is high (Hays, 2009). Relaxation skills contribute significantly to the regulation of stress when working in risky situations. These skills can be enhanced by engaging in pleasant activities, exercise, and use of rational and implosion emotive imageries.  

Performing Arts Domain

Concentration, confidence, and pre-performance routines are among the techniques that can be employed in enhancing performance within the domain of performing arts. In performing arts domain, concentration technique ensures that individuals remain focused in-front of the audience and are not distracted from their performance (Cremades & Tashman, 2014). This technique can be modified for effectiveness by engaging in activities that exercise the mind such as sudoko and crosswords. Mnemonics such as rhymes, acronyms, sentences, and visual images can also be employed in enhancing the effectiveness of this skill (Cremades & Tashman, 2014; Hays, 2009). The technique of confidence is significant in ensuring that artists are courageous while performing in front of an audience. This skill can be enhanced by engaging in activities that affirm accomplishment, talents, and strengths such as listening to empowering music and self-compassionate techniques such as focusing on one’s wellbeing and writing compassionate letters to one’s self (Cremades & Tashman, 2014).  The technique of pre-performance routine enables artists to establish effective routines, which in turn enable them to perform their top arts. This technique can be modified for effectiveness by creating routines using actions and cue words that get artists in the zone of performing arts.

Business Domain

Skills of concentration or focus, commitment, and goal-setting are among the techniques that can be employed in enhancing performance in business. The significance of the skill of focus lies in the fact that it enables business individuals, managers, employees, or managers to concentrate on the task without being sidetracked from the business goals by events or people (Hays, 2009). Embracing mind-exercising such as crosswords and sudoko can be employed in enhancing these skills. The significance of skill commitment in business lies in the fact that it enhances the willingness and determination of individuals to excel despite the challenges they encounter (Hays, 2009; Gonzalez, 2013). Psychology commitment training can be employed in enhancing this skill (Gonzalez, 2013). Businesses have goals to accomplish. As such, the existence of goal setting techniques plays a vital role in enhancing the attainment of such goals. This skill can be enhanced using techniques such as SMART (specific, measurable, attainment, realistic, and time-bound) model, HARD (heartfelt, animated, required, and difficult) model, and WOOP (wish, outcome, obstacle, and plan) model (Hays, 2009).

In conclusion, embracing techniques associated with concentration, confidence, mental toughness, emotional control, relaxation, and goal-setting can be employed in enhancing performance in the domains of business, high-risk occupation, and performing arts. Embracing the measures outlined in this paper can contribute significantly to the enhancement of these skills.
