Personal Knowing

Personal knowing is described as a dynamic process of becoming aware of self, a whole, and of knowing others as being whole and valued. Personal knowing can also be referred to as having knowledge about self in terms of what a person has experienced or seen (Chinn & Kramer, 2018). In this regard, I am aware that my professional weakness includes fearing to see and caring for patients in critical conditions and taking too much responsibility in practice, to an extent that I rarely involve others in tasks I believe that I am obliged of completing them. This may hinder the need for teamwork in provision of healthcare services. My professional strengths include being a good problem solver and having good interpersonal and communication skills. Nursing theory can help me increase the level of my self-awareness and understand myself better. Personal knowing can help me learn the importance of teamwork even in performance of simple tasks for achievement of better results as well as for sharing responsibility among members of a multidisciplinary team. Besides, I will utilize the concepts of personal knowing to identify areas of my strengths that need further improvement. Drawing from my professional and personal experience, I have realized that I can continuously improve myself by interacting with others and self-directed learning.
