Answer

Plan for A Parent Leadership Council Meeting

The involvement of parents with English Language Learners (ELLs) affects the performance of children and leads to higher academic achievement, and greater school enjoyment (Arias & Morillo-Campbell, 2008). One of the ways in which the parents can be involved is inviting them in a parent leadership council meeting. In the current meeting, the parents will be invited via the use of flyers and texted to be reminded of the meeting. In the day of the meeting, they will be presented with the agenda whereas guest speakers such as the Migrant Parent Outreach Facilitator will be invited to give an overview of why parent involvement is important in ELL. Also, the ESOL program will seek to recognize student achievements and increase parental involvement.

How the ESOL Program Will Serve English Language Learners

The ESOL program will benefit the ELLs because of the important speeches that will be made by the various guests that will seek to motivate them. In specific, the speech by the Migrant Parent Outreach Facilitator will give hope to the ELLs and motivate them to continue striving to learn the other languages. Additionally, through participation of the students in various activities such as displays, they will share and exchange various skills and strategies that can help them overcome the challenges they encounter in learning English as a second language (Arias & Morillo-Campbell, 2008). Also, the fact the program will involve activities to ensure increased parent participation, the ELLs will eventually benefit because their parents will become part of their English learning journey.

How the ESOL Program Will Recognize Student Achievement

To ensure that students who have performed exceptionally well are recognized, the ESOL program will have an award ceremony that will be led by the school principal. In specific, various awards will be given to the students including certificates that will recognize the exceptional performances of the students in different categories. The categories to be recognized and awarded include the three best performers in writing, speaking, reading, and listening. The aim of such awards will be to celebrate the students’ hard work all term long. Additionally, the three students who would have the best improvement of their language skills over the period in question will be recognized and awarded with certificates. The different categories of awards will ensure that many learners are recognized and thus, motivated to work harder in trying to have an effective comprehension of English as a second language.

How the ESOL Program Will Increase Parental Involvement

Parental involvement with the ELLs is vital in ensuring that they motivate them and provide them with the necessary support to thrive in their learning (Arias & Morillo-Campbell, 2008). One of the ways in which parent involvement will be increased in the ESOL is through table discussions. In specific, the parents will be grouped based on their language and language tags will be used to provide signs as to the table that the parents should sit.  Each of the tables will be given different topics to discussion. For instance, some will discuss on how an ESOL program should be while other will focus on how to improve the student’s academic performance. Engaging in such an activity will ensure that the parents get a better comprehension of what their children undergo and share information about ways that the performance of their children can be improved.
