Answer
Quantitative and Qualitative Research Review
This paper describes two peer-reviewed quantitative and qualitative articles by describing why each article is considered quantitative or qualitative, providing a justification for their selection, and presenting a rationale for the selection of the journals from where the two articles are obtained. The paper also provides links to the two articles. The articles chosen are entitled, Type 2 Diabetes Patients’ Perspectives, Experiences, and Barriers Toward Diabetes-Related Self-Care” by Bukhsh et al. (2020) and Effects of an outpatient diabetes self-management education on patients with type 2 diabetes in China: A randomized controlled trial by Zheng et al. (2019).
The article by Bukhsh et al. (2020) is a qualitative study owing to three reasons. First, qualitative studies often focus on the exploration of issues associated with personal experience, lived experience, meaning, stories, and understanding (Bryman, 2016). In relation to this, the article explores the practices, perspectives, and obstacles to diabetes self-care mainly linked to life circumstances and diabetes knowledge. Second, the article employs semi-structured interviews in gathering data from participants, which is a qualitative data gathering technique as argued by Bryman (2016). Third, the article employs thematic analysis in analyzing data, which is a qualitative data analysis method as argued by Bryman (2016). The article by Zheng et al. (2019) is a quantitative study. Three aspects of this article makes it a quantitative study. First, quantitative studies often focus on the establishment of the correlation between or among variables (Bryman, 2016). In relation to this, the article by Zheng et al. (2019) investigates the impact of diabetes education intervention on the level of psychological distress, glycemic control, and self-reported self-management in patients having 2 diabetes mellitus. Second, the article is a quantitative research as it employs random sampling in selecting participants, which is a quantitative technique for choosing participants as argued by Bryman (2016). Fourth, the research is quantitative as it employs descriptive statistics such as percentage and frequency, and statistical analysis, particularly SPSS in analyzing data, as argued by Bryman (2016).
The two articles are selected because they are peer-reviewed and current. According to Bryman (2016), peer reviewed articles are often written by professionals or experts and subjected to reviews by several other experts within the same field prior to the publishing of the journal, with the aim of ensuring the article’s quality. Moreover, the fact that the articles are up-to-date indicates that they are focused on addressing current issues in society.
The journals selected were the Journal of diabetes research from Hindawi and Frontiers in endocrinology. The Journal of diabetes research has been selected owing to the fact that Hindawi is a prestigious publishing house rising in citations and reputation. Moreover, the journal’s criterion for author describes its peer-review and editorial procedure, and gives comprehensive directives on how authors are anticipated to prepare and submit their papers. The Frontiers in Endocrinology journal has been chosen because this journal is prominent for publishing rigorously peer-reviewed studies from cellular and molecular communication to clinical care (Frontline in Endocrinology, 2021). As such, the articles from this journal are all peer-reviewed research.
