- QUESTION
Hello to all and many congratulations in the new year. Today I start the subject of Research and I will need you as always, only that this time the tasks must be continuous ie the week 1 has continued in week 2 and so on until week 8. I leave the topic to your choice, of course it has to do with nursing and every week I will send you the task that you touch.
For this week is the selection of the topic:
COLLAPSE
This week, you will be submitting a research topic and problem statement for use in your research proposal to your instructor for approval.
Welcome to Week 1
Research is essential in developing an evidence-based practice and in your role as a health care provider. The care provided by nurses must constantly be evaluated and improved on the basis of new and refined research knowledge. Nurses need to use research findings to determine the most effective way to deliver high quality health care. Please identify strategies that can be used for executing research responsibilities?
Week 1 Research Proposal Project: Submit Problem Statement and Research TopicProblem Statement and Research Topic
This week, you will seek approval for a research area for your quantitative research proposal project due in weeks 7 and 8. Submit a one-page, double-spaced paper addressing the following points:
• Identify your chosen research topic
• Create at least one problem statement to go along with your chosen research area
• Identify your research question/s
• Explain the significance of the research topic to nursing
Upon completion, your instructor will approve, deny, or make recommendations for modifications of your research topic, problem statement, or research question(s) to ensure successful completion of the research proposal project.

Answer
Research Problem and PICOT
One of the key roles of healthcare providers is to conduct comprehensive research regarding health issues and using the findings to develop evidence-based practices. This paper presents the research topic and PICOT question on managing adult obesity.
Research Topic
Globally, obesity remains a major public health concern since it is a significant risk factor in other chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Adult obesity which is defined based on the Body Mass Index (BMI) of above 30 has adverse effects on the individual’s quality of life thus the importance of diverse management approaches (Sturgiss, Elmitt, Haelser, van Weel, & Douglas, 2018). Treatment approaches according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) include behavioural changes, medication, and surgery (CDC, 2018). The research topic related to this approach examines the attitude and perception of obese patients regarding the different treatment approaches and in particular between lifestyle modification and use of medication. The PICOT question in this regard reads: For obese patients between 40-50 years (P), how does their perception and attitude towards lifestyle modification (I) compare to medication (C) in selecting and implementing the management plan for significant outcomes such as weight loss and enhanced quality of life (O) over three months (T)?
Problem Statement
Presently, there are different treatment approaches for adult obesity. According to Yanovski (2018), a holistic management approach is recommended for this condition while considering the patient factors such as other diseases. However, it is not clear which is the most preferred treatment approach to the patients between lifestyle modification and medication. This can be examined by the patient’s attitudes and perception regarding the different treatment options. In addition, it is not clear on whether nurses’ interventions such as patient education has a significant effect on the patient’s selection and commitment towards the treatment option.
Research Questions
In line with the research topic, the study questions will include
- What is the perception and attitude of obese patients between lifestyle modification and medication?
- What is the role of nurses in influencing obese patients to adopt a particular treatment approach?
- Between lifestyle modification and medication, which is the most preferred treatment approach for patients to managing obesity and why?
Significance
The importance of this research is to demonstrate the most preferred treatment option by obese patients and the reasons. In addition is examining the role of nurses in influencing the patient’s attitude and perception and the implementation of the management plan. This will aid in developing an EBP related to the most preferred strategies and educating the nurses on their roles and responsibilities in influencing the patient’s selection of the treatment approach.
