Instructions:
You’ll need to use the textbook as well as videos and the terminology (you are welcome to use the glossary or the flipcards). The online tool is here: https://routledgetextbooks.com/textbooks/9781138743427/student.php
Audience assumption: a room full of other educators but who know nothing about language…Math, History, Biology, etc. Among them, you might expect some colleagues who come from a different theoretical background. So, be explicit and formal.
1. Explain Figure 17.1 (attached) in DETAIL
2. Work into your explanation, DEFINITIONS of 8 (EIGHT) terms from the flashcards (from the online tool — a subset of the glossary)
3. HIGHLIGHT these terms for ease of visibility (think of them as keywords).
4. Work into your explanation REFERENCES to 5 (FIVE) different articles illustrating research on DIFFERENT linguistic phenomena
5. Remember to cite these correctly. [This is a top-down way of building argumentation about certain linguistic phenomena]
2. Go through a long list of videos in the online tool: https://routledgetextbooks.com/textbooks/9781138743427/student.php
1. Choose 2 (TWO) videos from 2 (TWO) different chapters that you believe to illustrate (some part of) your point in the previous question.
2. Demonstrate this illustration. Be explicit.
3. Your explanation for THIS question must be able to ‘stand’ alone/INDEPENDENTLY from your answer for the previous question (i.e. “this supports my answer in #1” is not an appropriate answer here)
4. Remember to cite. [The videos offer you linguistic phenomena for (short) analysis and give you an opportunity to build your argument ground-up vs. top-down]
3. Use ANY OTHER video from the long list of video sources provided: https://routledgetextbooks.com/textbooks/9781138743427/student.php. [so, you cannot use the same video you have already used]. Answer the following questions as explicitly as possible: [note, if you say ‘behavioral’, this is not going to be enough]
1. What is the linguistic phenomenon to be addressed in the data?
2. What 3 (THREE) types of questions could you ask of the data?
3. What type of methodology could be used to collect such data?
4. What type of theoretical framework AND a model could be used to analyze such data?
5. In what you are proposing in (a)-(d), what are the immediate limitations?
4. Look over EVERYTHING you have said here and offer 3 (THREE) pedagogical implications,
2 (TWO) of which must come from DIFFERENT branches of linguistics.
5.Create a Works Cited page. Using the correct citation format (APA7), cite everything that you have cited on this final.
