Answer

The Effects of Self-Fulfilling Prophecy on Education, Careers, and Relationships

When people meet acquaintances for the first time, they form subconscious judgments and assumptions that determine their future relationships. Thus, future relationships are formed based on the beliefs developed when we meet people for the first time. For instance, if we believe that the person is friendly and good, we establish friendly relationship and get more involved with them. The behavior that we hold towards new acquaintances is founded on our expectations. Nonetheless, the other person also becomes friendly with us when we demonstrate a close association with them. On the other hand, when we believe that our new acquaintance is rude, the behaviors align with the belief, resulting in a negative association with them. Thus, it can be concluded that a self-fulfilling prophecy is manifested when beliefs and expectations on other people influence our behavior.

The concept of self-fulfilling prophecy is essential in academic performance, career development, and behavioral formation in relationships. For instance, our expectations influence how we study and score in exams. Besides, it also determines how we perform in our careers. When there are no rewards for excellent performance in my department, my performance would be low. In my relationship, what I think of my partner affects how I relate to him or her. For example, if I know that my partner is about to dump me, I would be cruel and behave in an undesirable way since I know that they will leave me anyway. Human behavior aligns with a set of beliefs, assumptions, and expectations that determines our behavior.

ANSWER

The Literature Review and Searching for Evidence

Literature Review Analysis

The literature section of the article explains the continuing competence methods and perceived value for certification. The author uses literature from PubMed and SINAHL for three areas of content for 2015, continuing competence, the value of nursing specialty certification, and barriers and facilitators of nursing certification. Evidence on comprehensive literature review on continued competence supported education as an aspect of increased knowledge and perceived competency (Boyle, 2020). The competency of written examination and documentation of practice are other continuing competency methods used for recertification. Nursing specialty certification is essential to nurses since it comes with additional advantages such as salary increment, promotions, and enhanced feelings of personal accomplishment, among others. However, there are facilitators and barriers for nursing certification. The facilitators include reimbursement for exam fee, renewal fee, and continuing education. The literature identified the main barriers as the cost of examination, lack of time to access materials, and inadequate institutional support.

The research purpose was to review strategies and requirements to show continuing competence to nurses with CMSRN credentials, facilitators, and barriers to continuing competencies, and perception of value certification. (Boyle, 2020). The author addressed the purposes of the study by using relevant articles that strictly address the research study and from credible search databases. The search terms involved the exact terms in the research purpose. Something that I found interesting as I read the literature section is the consistent use of information from other research studies that supports the topic of study. The author effectively explains how the articles contribute to the purpose of the study. The strategy I have learned that would help me while conducting a literature review is the importance of using relevant search terms to locate relevant articles that significantly contribute to my topic of study. Besides, explaining every part of the topic from different sub topic also enhances clarity of content. Thorough review of literature is important since it ensures that credible and only relevant information is compiled for study. Nonetheless, it allows comparison and assessment of various perceptions of scholars on the subject of study.
