Technology: Benefits and Trends

It cannot be disputed that technology is a powerful tool that has, as has been witnessed over the years, the potential to transform learning, often affirming and advancing student-student and student-educator relationships.  Indeed, technology enables reinvention of learning approaches and contextual collaboration so that learner’s experiences meet the expectations for future roles (Ravenscroft, 2011). Additionally, the role it plays in work settings cannot be underestimated.  This paper discusses a technology that is thought to be most beneficial in the school setting.

While I embrace technology in various aspect of life, I think StudyBlue is the most beneficial as far as my education is concerned.  The mobile app is in essence a digital library that allows learners to store and share learning materials with each other. Indeed, it is a useful tool as it enables learners to access their learning materials from any location (TeachThought Staff, 2018). It also helps in collaboration by connecting students in similar fields, thus enabling them to exchange materials. Considering a tool such as Flashnotes, I think it is the least beneficial because hardworking students would not need it; it helps lazy students who cannot attend lessons and take their own notes.  A student who is truly committed and focused on his/her education would not need Flashnotes. After all, students who upload these notes might miss some crucial points during the lectures.

Looking into the future, StudyBlue can be enhanced even further by integrating it with other apps so that one need not to install it, so long as he or she has the other apps installed on their devices. For instance, integrating it with the Facebook app in one’s mobile phone would enable a user to access it via Facebook.  This will greatly magnify the benefits of this learning tool.

As concerns my dream technology in relation to patient care and safety, I would love to see technological innovation that would create a central database for everyone in the world. This would enable any facility anywhere to access patient information (such as medical history) upon entering a unique number (an identifier). This way, a patient from South America, say Brazil, visiting a small dispensary in remote China will still only need to give his/her unique number, which would be entered to retrieve all his details from the database.  This way, technology would have taken patient care and safety to a whole new level because the patient details will be integral in informing what kind of care would be optimal for the patient.
