Answer

The Phantom of the Opera Theater Performance

The Phantom of the Opera is a theatre performance set in the Paris Opera House, believed to be haunted by the disfigured man who lives in the opera house’s catacombs. The theatrical follows Erik’s story; a defaced young man who is enthralled by Christine’s voice; a passionate chorus girl obsessed with music. While mentoring Christine in her singing, Erik falls for her, unaware of Raoul’s love for Christine (USMmusic, N/A). Throughout the performance, a series of events led to emotions, including jealousy, hatred, madness, and passion colliding between Erik, the opera’s phantom, and Raoul.

The captivating performance is attributed to the theme of the performance and the costumes used. The major theme of the performance is that things and people should not be judged on their appearance. Because of his deformation, Erik wears a mask that leads people to believe he is evil, despite the fact he has been turned evil by the lack of affection towards him from people (USMmusic, N/A). The costumes worn by the cast of the performance are charmingly magnificent and captivating to the audience viewing the show. Adding to the show’s theme, the costumes in the designs and fabrics reflect the traditional attire worn at the time.

Additionally, the play is filled with props and background music that brings about the theatrical performance’s darkened mood. The background music helps set the somber, darkened mood portrayed throughout the performance. Props used include the mask worn by Erik, the opera’s phantom, the boat, and the robotic monkey (USMmusic, N/A). The mask is the most memorable prop as it marks Erik’s vulnerability for being judged for his deformed face. The props help bring about the personalities of each main character.

Erik, Christine, and Raoul are the main characters in the performance. Christine is the main antagonist of the performance, portrayed with a naive, kind, shy, and innocent personality. Erik the opera’s phantom is the principal antagonist of the performance displayed with the personality of being secretive, controlling, and passionate (USMmusic, N/A). However, Raoul takes up a second part as the main character. Raoul is seen to be of nobility shown to have been innocent and passionate, especially with his pursuit for Christine’s affection, as seen in the performance’s primary conflict.

The primary conflict of the performance centers around the affection between Erik and Christine. Although Erik has fallen in love with Christine, Christine is in love with Raoul. This causes conflict that towards the end of the performance, Erik realizes that Christine loves another and lets her go. Forecasting to the closing scene, Erik, the opera’s Phantom, still recounts his love for Christine.
