  1. QUESTION

In the field of human services, you will at some point be working with trauma, so it is imperative that you know the role of trauma and its impact on the
individuals, families, and practitioners involved. Specifically, you will need to be aware of the short- and long-term impacts of physical and psychological trauma,
as well as how this trauma affects needs. Next, you will need to recommend appropriate referrals and resources to address these needs and various levels of
crises. Not only will clients need recommendations, but practitioners will as well, as they also feel the impact of trauma from working with trauma daily.

Evaluate the extent to which the plan addresses the children’s needs. How do the interventions and referrals in place address the needs? How do the interventions and referrals differ for acute versus ongoing needs? Do they thoroughly address the needs?

Yes, the plan addresses the kids’ needs because it tackles the risk factors of poor parenting skills, drug abuse in the house, and past abuse through mental health counseling.  The interventions and referrals address the needs through mental health therapy for the family, emergency help in buying groceries, and legal assistance to prevent eviction. The acute needs are counseling and safety for Kolomalu and Eloni, and the ongoing needs comprise shelter since Anamalia is facing eviction.

Discuss the gaps in service of the plan. How do the interventions or referrals not address the children’s needs? What recommendations would you make to address these needs?

The gaps in the intervention that does not tackle the kids needs include:

i.                     Job placement for Anamalia to enable her to provide food and shelter

ii.                   The services provided do to customize the counseling therapy to Eloni and Kolomalu’s psychological trauma and is not appropriate for their age bracket.

My recommendations to address these needs include;

i.                     Anamalia seeks homeless shelter services from the department of homeless services (DHS) as she will get temporary housing support as she recollects her life.

ii.                   The DHS can also link Anamalia and her children to shelter services such as Catholic Charities, YWCA, Volunteers of America, where she and her kids can access various services such as counseling, food, housing, homeless resources, and integrated case management.

iii.                  Eloni and Kolomalu should be linked to a behavioral therapist and given counseling services tailored to their age and psychological trauma (Hanson & Lang, 2016).

Evaluate the extent to which the plan addresses the family’s needs. What steps are in place to address the family’s needs? How do they address the needs? How do the steps differ for acute versus ongoing needs? Do they thoroughly address the needs? Are there gaps where needs are not addressed?

The family’s immediate needs, such as eviction and food regularly, are not addressed by the current plan. The family got a referral to apt agencies to assist with mental health needs and housing needs. Likewise, Anamalia got a referral to assist her in getting a job. Whereas the plan does not give immediate relief for the family’s basic needs, it does offer the resource essential in meeting the family’s ongoing needs. By participating in the intervention made, the family will learn coping and resiliency aptitudes and re-build their lives to a better future (Boles, 2017).

Discuss the gaps in service of the plan. How do the interventions or referrals not address the family’s needs? What recommendations would you make to address these needs?

The plan’s intervention gaps do not tackle the family’s immediate needs: homelessness because of eviction, Eloni’s suspension from school, and Anamalia’s challenges of providing nutritious food for her kids. Whereas there is no immediate service to assist the family, there are likely resources such as shelter services that families can access to ease their situation.

The suggestions for these unmet needs are for Anamalia to seek DHS services to link her to shelter services with diverse programs to serve her family’s immediate needs.

Evaluate the effectiveness of the contingency plan. What contingency plan is in place? How do this address risk and resiliency factors of the child and family?

The contingency plan in place is mental health counseling for the family and parenting skills training for Anamalia. The contingency plan addresses the family’s risk factors of poor parenting skills, drug and past abuse through mental health counseling, and Anamalia learning parenting skills from her support group. The contingency plan tackles Anamalia’s resiliency factor of having a degree through makes it easy for her to get a job from the referral. The kids and Anamalia have a strong connection with the community, which implies they have a robust support system that makes it easy for them to get referrals to shelter services or help.
