When conducting research, both qualitative research and quantitative research methods can be utilized, but they are very different when compared. According to Yegidis et al. (2018), Exploratory research is the typical for qualitative studies. This method of research examines the underlying assumptions, viewpoints, and motivations related to a particular situation or occurrence. Additionally, qualitative research does not include a hypotheses.

Quantitative research on the other hand is more structured. This research method usually includes an hypothesis and data collection techniques are surveys, behavioral observations, and structured interviews. Sample sizes are usually larger Yegidis et al. (2018).

After reviewing these approaches, which is a good fit for your study and why?

My research question is: what are the most common forms of elderly abuse, and what societal factors impact the risk of elderly abuse taking place? To answer my research question, I think it would be beneficial to use the quantitative research method because I will need to collect data from a large population through surveys and structured interviews.

Based on the methodological approach for your study, how will you ensure that your approach is culturally sensitive?

To ensure that the quantitative approach in my research is culturally sensitive by ensuring that I find reliable sources addressing elderly abuse across all ethnicities and socioeconomic statuses. This way I will have a nuanced understanding in how cultural differences effect experiences.
