Answer
To All Ambitious Female Athletes,
Women’s roles in the society have been largely ignored and repressed since time immemorial. Interestingly, gradual changes are continuously being recorded in various professions. For instance, women have penetrated into top leadership positions in countries (e.g. Canada) and organizations such as and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Trade Organization.
Despite this progress, the position of women in athletics is largely undermined. It goes without saying that female-dominated sports do not receive the recognition and support that male-dominated sports do. As a matter of fact, there is little to no female representation at the management levels of most sports brands. Such a devastating reality calls for in-depth discussions on how equality can be attained.
I believe that women have the opportunity and capacity to enhance participation in leadership positions in the world of sports. However, attaining such a progressive vision demands intense levels of determination, resilience, competence, and a positive mindset. Gone are the days when women would expect opportunities to be granted on a silver platter. Despite the paternalistic nature of the world, we should all strive for a world where women’s roles in the sporting world are not undermined. Perhaps, the key solution to this challenge is unity among women in power, and dedication on an individual level.
It is important to note that the vision I am painting in this letter has already been attained by successful female athletes, including Serena Williams, Emma Hayes, Linda Cohn, and Stacy Allaster among others. Success in sports is a realistic goal for women, so let us pursue it diligently.
