Web creation and presentation/justification Group 1, 2 Graded N/A 30% – See assessment description and study timetable. N/A
Team: Two people (in special cases individual work is permitted).Part A: Web creation
Due: Completed by midnight Friday Week 5.
You and your partner will be required to create a website (of no more than five web pages) for a fictitious business within the realm of tourism, hospitality and event management. NB: You may use this fictitious business as the basis for Assignment 3.
Your site will be a specified ‘size’ (‘home’ page plus four pages) and ‘functionality’ (capabilities to business). You will also need to incorporate design aspects that are both attractive to the profile of your target market, and must incorporate suitable aspects of usability as will be discussed during the session.
Your website will need to demonstrate a reflection of the organisation, its mission, target market, staffing, management and environment, and general culture of the business.
Remember, simple, easy to read and navigate web pages are much better than complicated, multi-coloured sites, which may take hours to load up into your browser!
The content, layout and general ‘feel’ of the site will be determined by your reading and understanding of web design theory, given the organisation you’re doing it for. You are encouraged to be imaginative and innovative – as long as you can support and justify your creative decisions (see presentation of website, below).
While this task does not necessitate development and online publishing of the site, you will need to provide documentation that clearly demonstrates and justifies (with academic references) your design intent. You may choose to develop the site in part or full for presentation purposes.
Note 1: We will spend some time examining web creation and there will be online tutorial time allocated to this task.
Note 2: We’ll discuss the best way of collating and saving your pages/websites to make it easier when you do your presentations.
Note 3: You may not use PowerPoint for your web pages themselves.
Part B: Use of Internet technologies: Presentation and evaluation of website
Due: Submission online midnight Friday Week 5. Prsentations in class/online, Weeks 6 and 8.
Your mark for Assignment 1 is assigned during a presentation to our ISY group to be conducted during Weeks 6 and 7. For internal students we will conduct a random draw, to see when you are to present your website. External students can present using online technology such as Blackboard Collaborate or Skype to their lecturer.
Your presentation (you can use powerpoint) must outline to the audience the rationale and justification for the way you have designed your website. You need to describe and justify the elements involved with web evaluation and aspects of ‘good’ web page creation.
You must submit accomanying academic references and any notes you would ike to refer to in your presentation, in a separate word document. Guide: at least 5 academic references.
Your presentation may be peer-reviewed, by both staff and your colleagues, during your presentation. Criteria for ‘good’ website construction will be gathered during the session and used as a guide for our evaluation of your sites.
The seminar presentation should be around 10 minutes in length. There will be a few minutes for questions at the end. Questions are encouraged.
Assessment 2: wiki or blog

wiki or blog Group 2, 3 Graded N/A 40% – See assessment description and study timetable. N/A
Team: Group of four.Due: Staged over several weeks. Final version due midnight Friday Week 8. In-class or online discussions Weeks 9 and 10.
Make a blog or a wiki. In this, compare and contrast four ICT strategic plans for corporations involved in providing tourism, hospitality and/or events services and facilities.
Scope: The organisations you may consider are not restricted to hotels and events management organisations. There are many organisations that supply/organise hospitality and events: airlines, hospitals, universities, boarding schools and other institutions, cultural centres, and so on.
Team: You need to do this assignment in groups of four. Your lecturer, tutor or unit assessor may allocate you to a group, and the others in the group may not necessarily be from the same campus as yourself.
Your group blog/wiki will evolve according to a number of set stages. Each stage must contain posts by each of the authors in your team. All members must contribute.
Stage one (by Week 4)
Conduct research on four examples of a strategic management plan for information systems in the tourism, hospitality or events management sectors.
Give the web links (URLs) to these examples in your blog/wiki or supply the document as an attachment/embedded link.
For each organisation explain in no more than 100 words what the organisation does and how it is related to tourism/hospitality/events services or facilities.
In 200–400 words explain in your blog/wiki what strategic elements are contained in each ICT plan individually.
Stage two (by Week 6)Group discussion (evidence online).
Compare and contrast the strategic elements.
Decide on indicators or factors whereby you can measure the effectiveness or value of a strategic management plan for information systems in the tourism, hospitality or events management sectors. What would a successful plan contain? What should it not contain?
Every member of the team must take part in the discussion.Length guideline: each member to contribute at least twice.
Stage three (by Week 8)
Outline strategic elements your team considers essential for consideration in a Strategic Information Communication Technology plan for a tourism, hospitality or events organisation. Make reference to academic literature in justifying your reasoning. Length guideline: approx. 1000 words in total.
The blog/wiki is to be presented in class/online in Weeks 9 and 10 for assignment of grades.
Assessment 3: Strategic ICT plan

Strategic ICT plan Individual 3, 4 Graded N/A 30% 6 – 10 pages 29 May 2016 11:00 PM N/A
Create, for a fictitious business within the realm of tourism, hospitality and event management, a ‘skeleton’ strategic information systems management plan. You do not need to give details in the plan, and you can make figures/timelines up if you wish. Length guideline: 6 – 10 pages including graphs and diagrams (if necessary, but must be labelled and justified). Here are anouncements from teacher so please need to follow in assignmnt 1.
This task will help you with assignment one (defending your choices of your site); and assignments 2 and 3 (strategy). NB: This is also a suggestion for our external cohort who may email me their responses for feedback.
Please do online research using our ISY00244 blog as a starting point to answer these questions:
When embedding photos in your website you need to consider copyright issues. What does this mean, in practical terms, for your webpageassignment?
How can you improve web accessibility for people with disabilities? Also, what percentage of the population are colour-blind? Which colours are most affected?
What are some of the major mistakes made in designing webpages?
What aspects of navigation and labelling are most important?
What three measures can you take to improve the readability of your webpage?
What are some of the quality criteria for website excellence?Go to http://isy00244.blogspot.com.au/search/label/web%20design to start your research and head out to the www from there
Then, turn to the literature and answer these questions (to help you get a HD):
Which 5 factors capture e-commerce web site quality (this is in reference to an IS success model)?
What is a TAM model and what does it look like?
What is the difference between informational/communicational strategy and on-line/transactional strategy, and what are the implications of this?Notes on assignment one presentations
Experience from previous years shows that High Distinctions are earned by teams who can show that they’ve read and understood the main theoretical aspects that we’ve covered so far. Their presentations justify their decisions for design elements, drawing in theory to support their decisions. They’ve read Nilesen’s work, and Wen, Houn-Gee and Hwang’s work, they’ve read and understood what a TAM model is and what an IS success model is. They understand readability and how to influence it. They know the difference between informational/communicational strategy and on-line/transactional strategy, and the implications of this. They justify their choices with regards to ICT by drawing on theory and using the theory to support their statements. Etc.
The poor grades are characterised by a tendency to
1) Describe and/or promote the organisation. Look, we’re not going to buy stuff from “your” organisation … The assignment is not about how good your fictitious organisation is. The fictitious organisation is a stepping stone towards building a site and understanding a number of key theories about web-based design, marketing etc. Quite a lot of valuable presentation time is sometimes wasted by telling us how great this company is … Which may well be true, but it’s not the point of the exercise.
2) Just describe the website. Actually, we can see the website. If you spend a lot of time describing it “This page has photos; this colour is blue; this colour is red …” you are also not really engaging with the theory. WHY did you select these colours, WHY did you include these photos and how do they improve your site’s ability to achieve it’s purpose? And what is the purpose of your site?
3) Lack of theoretical input. Haven’t read anything much about the underlying theory. Can’t discuss theory and it’s application (this leads to a fail).
Hope this helps clarify expectations for the assignment!
Just a pointer for assignment two: again, don’t promote “your” organisation. You don’t work for them and you’re not marketing them. You’r analysing their ICT strategic plan, that’s all.

Answer
ACT Association of Providers of Training Services Incorporated (APTS), Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP), St. Michael’s Primary School and St. Joseph’s College compare and contrast each other in their ICT strategic plans in certain dimension. All the four institutions focus on the eCommerce strategy. ACT has an online system that ensures students training and other training program, DIBP’s online system enhances business planning and strategic risk maps. St. Joseph’s College and St. Michael’s Primary School focus on eLearning and teleworking, which are components of eCommerce. The two institutions have managed to integrate ICT equipment/devices in their systems in an effective manner by providing laptops to learners, thereby ensuring that each student can completely utilise the existing learning resources. However, St. Michael’s has stepped a notch higher by incorporating iPads, junior iMacs, and staffMacBooks to ensure that leaners can varied and broad curriculum irrespective of their locations. On the contrary, while St. Joseph’s offers better internet services (i.e. 50MB/20MB ADSL through CEVN and 200MB/200MB synchronous cable), the internet connectivity provided by St. Joseph’s is only limited to the school’s vicinity, thereby limiting learners potential to access the curriculum when outside the school. The two institutions also embrace the aspect of cyber safety, whereby St. Michael’ Primary School advocates cyber safety programs such as eSmart, whereas St. Joseph’s college has installed external and internal surveillance cameras. The four institutions also focus on policy development as a strategy for ICT. For instance, DIBP and APTS have online systems for individual agreements and advocacy respectively, while St. Michael’s and St. Joseph’s focus on cyber safety issues, which are often associated with policy matters. However, while APTS and DIBP focuses on the enterprise-wide approach, St. Michael’s Primary School and St. Joseph’s College focus do not embrace this approach. For example, APTS has an online platform that fosters co-development of solutions-involving end-users, while APTS has an integrative platform of acquiring and managing queries of members. St. Michael’s Primary School intends to embrace the enterprise wide approach in its ICT system in the future, as it plans to incorporate professional organisations and specialist teachers from other institution to contribute to the development of its online school curriculum.
#2
The four institutions can manage to accomplish high effectiveness in their ICT strategy systems by incorporating various elements. Prommarat et al., (2015) assert that a well-developed information management strategy enhances business processes/operations and assists organisations to meet compliance/adherence mandates, and nurtures effective collaboration. Some of the factors that should be considered in the development of such as strategy are enterprise wide approach, organisational information system goals, possibility of business integration and extension, system’ s auditability and flexibility relative to the emerging technologies, presence of mobile and remote access (Fotiadis et al. 2014). Poor plans are inflexibility and restrict auditability, while limiting remote and mobile access. Besides, such plans are not in line with the organisational IT objectives. According to Buhalis (2003), an effective IT strategy can be accomplished by developing online communities where stakeholders can meet, network/interact, and establish communication channels and leveraging business operations on the internet to accomplish an efficient, dynamic, and timely exchange of products/services and ideas. Buhalis (2003) adds that the integration of various communication devices and applications into their website and online systems should also be considered
