- QUESTION
In this course, each of you will be developing a research proposal. Our focus this week is to identify a problem specific to your role option that is amenable to an innovative solution.
Based on your specialty role option (i.e., Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator, Nurse Informaticist, Nurse Administrator), identify a potential problem (topic) that you would like to investigate through nursing research. Begin by reading the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN) position statement on nursing research (http://www.aacn.nche.edu/publications/position/nursing-research).
Next explore South’s Online Library and conduct a search to locate a minimum of three nursing research articles that have addressed the problem you have identified. The literature may not be older than 5 years. After reading the literature respond to the following:
Note your role specialization and briefly describe the problem you are interested in researching and why this is of interest to you.
Discuss your library search strategies and briefly summarize the literature you reviewed. Focus your discussion on the “problem†and how the literature you identified provides evidence of the existence of the problem.
Include in your discussion a potential innovation that you might consider as a solution to the problem identified.
Include citations/references in APA style format, using citations where appropriate.Look CINAHLor other nursing databases. Here is a topic to consider: Falls in hospitals. Identify adults as target audience. Here is an idea below.
“Factors associated with falls in hospitalized adult patients.” This is a longitudinal survey of the factors that cause falls in adults and provides recommendations on how to mitigate the circumstances of those falls. Another proposal is “Effects of exercise programs on depressive symptoms, quality of life, and self-esteem in older people.” This study looks at regular exercise to see if it can help the elderly cope with depressive issues.

Answer
Impact of Assistive Technology in Reducing Movement Difficulties among Hospitalized Elderly Patients
The main aim of every nursing research is to explore the nursing concept and provide alternative solutions or recommend further research towards ensuring better care; now and in the future. Ostensibly, this proposal seeks to analyze how assistive technology contributes to better movement among hospitalized elderly patients. Specifically, the study focuses on the assistive technology available in hospitals for the specific role of allowing hospitalized elderly patients move within the hospital. In this regard, any limitations realized through the study will be acknowledged and alternative solutions provided towards ensuring that hospitalized elderly patients are able to able to move and improve their health conditions in the process. This study will therefore adopt a correlational design that will explore existing knowledge and even propose relationships that can be used by future adopters.
According to the American Association of College of Nursing, nursing research has to be guided by evidenced sources in order to guarantee evidence based outcomes that contribute to better care. For this reason, research materials for this study will be sourced from renowned nursing resources sites like CINAHL and EBSCOhost. To begin with, the study will define and explain various types and examples of assistive technologies in hospitals as discussed by Saborowski and Kollak (2015). The study will later discuss the impacts of these sources by numerous researchers like Khosravi and Ghapanchi (2016). Rathore, Shukla and Morsi (2016) also note that one of the possible solutions to ensuring assistive technologies effectively contribute to better movement of hospitalized elderly patients is to utilize motor driven devices (powered assistive technologies). Other innovative technologies will also be mentioned towards ensuring better health through effective assistive technologies.
