Personal Leadership Style
Leadership is an influential process where a leader expects involvement of subordinates in order to achieve organizational goals and objectives. There are various leadership styles that have been identified based on characteristic of leaders and their administrations. I have, however, discovered that I lean towards democratic leadership style according to a leadership quiz I took online. The best determinant of good leadership in organization is a better end result that is mostly achieved in democratic leadership style, and I have learned that it creates space for innovation, growth, and involvement by subordinates. This paper presents a short analysis of what I have learned about my leadership style, areas I believe I would require professional development in and a plan of how I would attain professional development.
I have learned that in democratic leadership, the subordinates highly feels valued and recognized just as anyone else as they are all involved in decision making process in an organization (Kendra, 2016). The sense of decision making involvement gives them confidence in coming up with creative ideas for problem solutions and a leader uses the ideas from different specialized knowledge to drive forward any duty given.
I have also leant that in my leadership style, involving employees in decision making process gives them room for growth. Democratic leadership is ideal for keeping employees informed in any work related issue. Giving employees opportunity to take part in decision making and problem solving will obviously make them feel honored and acknowledged hence actively participates for both personal and organizational achievements (Kendra, 2016). Employees would love to work in an environment where they can experience personal growth and job satisfaction and through collaboration and team building all sorts of development can be witnessed through various achievements.
It is common for leaders to have professional developments in some areas for successful leadership and to enable employees to meet organizational goals (Jay, 2015). Goals in an organization may vary at different levels like individual goals, departmental goals, and organizational goals. After setting goals, different areas of improvements need to be taken into consideration to advance productivity and leadership.
One of the areas I would require professional development in is enhanced communication at all levels. . Good communication in any organization maximizes productivity and success. However a good thinker someone may be, poor communication leads to poor relationship with employees or subordinates. I will, therefore, invest in proper communication skills for professional development (Jay, 2015). This I would achieve through taking part in management training programs that emphasize more on communication in both verbal and nonverbal interactions.
Becoming a better motivator to my subordinates is another leadership professional skill that fuels betters results by employees. When employees are unmotivated, productivity also goes down since they would lack morale at work (Jay, 2015). Motivation increases willingness of employees to work, hence effectiveness to organization. Therefore, I will address various motivation means to employees to improve their morals and maximize their efficacy.
Giving perfect coaching skills to employees is another professional development area I believe I would need to practice. As a leader I have to learn on how to coach employees and equip them with necessary skills through their tasks and recognize their strengths (Kurland, 2010). This shapes an atmosphere that’s helpful for development. I will set goals to improve this management skill with assessable outcomes, like better employee performance and success. In conclusion, it has been realized that democratic leadership brings greater impact on employee motivation, innovation, and job satisfaction as it allow both vertical and horizontal communication within an organization. Setting up goals can also help in achieving various professional developments. Goals are structured to enable one’s leadership to be of advance productivity.
