Answer
Assignment 1: Research Project Idea
Report title |
Motivating Employees in Billu’s Restaurant to Reduce Staff Turnover |
||||||||
Industry partner |
My chosen industry partner is Billu’s Restaurant; an Indian eatery located in Harris Park, New South Wales (NSW), Australia (Billu.com.au, 2018). The company was started 25 years ago (1993) and has 20 casual employees. My connection to the organization is that I frequent the eatery and I have thus gained an understanding of some of its operations. |
||||||||
Research field |
The research field is the human resource management (HRM) with a particular focus in the hospitality industry. The focus will be examining the aspect of staff turnover which falls under the human resources area. Additionally, the HRM will be on the hospitality industry as opposed to other industries which have experienced staff turnover. |
||||||||
Overarching problem |
Billu’s Restaurant has been successful since it was renovated 25 years ago. However, every day, the eatery has to employ new members of staff to replace those casual employees who have failed to turn up for their jobs (Billu.com.au, 2018). The restaurant has failed to keep/retain its employees and each day experiences a staff turnover of 30 percent. The proposed research will seek to address the issue of staff turnover in the organization and ways that the organization can reduce the rate at which its workers leave. Staff turnover has been found to be costly in terms of hiring and training new employees (Mohsin and Lengler, 2015, p.5). Addressing the issue of staff turnover will thus be vital in saving the company the costs associated with replacement and ensuring continuity (Zhao et al., 2016, p.27). |
||||||||
Overarching research aim |
The proposed project will seek to address the overarching problem by aiming at establishing ways in which Billu’s Restaurant can use motivation to effectively reduce the number of employees leaving the organization and being replaced. In specific, the following will be the research objectives: – i. To establish the antecedents of staff turnover in Billu’s Restaurant. ii. To assess mechanisms that Billu’s Restaurant deploys in addressing the rates of turnover.
iii. To discuss ways that Billu’s Restaurant can use motivation to reduce the rate of staff turnover. |
