Operations management is the government of business operations to enhance efficiency within an organization, entailing designing, managing, and improving the activities involved in the process of creating products and services and delivering them to consumers. It is concerned with converting materials and labor into goods and services as efficiently as possible to maximize the profit of an organization, made possible by the use of the process analysis technique. In the bid to best understand the fundamentalism of process improvement, the case study of bakery production is highlighted. Bakery operation consists of multiple processes that involve inputs such as material and labor to produce the output which are the various baked products. The carious production lines (like the information and physical flows) assumed in the process can be improved accordingly to make production more efficient. The entire operation process of the bakery is faced by certain complexities and uncertainties, heightened by variabilities, which will call for managerial aids.
Based on the centrality of the need to improve the bakery’s operations, certain recommendations are highlighted to aid in the process’s fundamentalism. The first recommendation to improve production of bread is the calculation of measures in particular processes requires utmost attention. To improve a process, it is necessary to select the type of process subjected to the improvement. Factors like Cycle Time, bottleneck, idletime, capacity, and thoughtput times are fundamental to the process and should be ascertained for improvement in enhancing efficiency of the entire process. It is also recommended that the batch size be determined and inventory managed based on the constraining physical limitations in the bakery, based on the number of products in the output array, a decision which will be subjected to managerial provisions. Management of the process can be done by altering the process through changing technologies, machines or workers.
