Answer
TED Talk Analysis
In the TED Talk, Adam Foss states that he is a prosecutor and believes in law and order. He dares the addressees to confess to any petty crime they may have committed, for example, underage drinking, physically fighting a sibling, or shoplifting. The silence in the room was resounding when he asked the number the similar individuals who spent even a day in detention for one of the aforementioned happenings, or if any of them ought to be defined by those incidences of youthful injudiciousness or feel that he or she poses a threat to society. In Rocksberry, a region beleaguered with drug crime and gun violence Adam witnessed unending cases of primarily black persons presenting themselves in courts pleading ‘not guilty,’ only for largely white prosecuting attorneys to make life-altering decision for the persons.
Adam also states that he saw human stories that consisted of the criminal justice system, early interaction with the police, disengagement from schools, loss, poverty, victimization, and childhood, all leading to the courtrooms. Adam asserts that he could not fathom or understand why the judges would expend a lot of funds to keep these persons in detention for the subsequent eighty years when they could have re-invested it upfront and perchance prohibited the entire thing from occurring. In this regard, I totally agree with Adams as the justice system can play an integral role in preventing crimes before they happen. Adam realized that his duty or responsibility as a prosecutor was beyond just dispensing justice through punishments, as it was also his role to protect young individuals through methods of support and interventions. This shows that the prosecutors have a responsibility of changing lives rather than ruining them. The prosecutors should help those who steal to make a living get a job just as Adam did to the woman who was found stealing groceries to feed her children.
