Prompt:  Christians as slaves of Christ and Leadership.

Christians can best be defined as slaves of Christ based on their relationship with Him.  According to John MacArthur, “True Christianity is not about adding Jesus to my life. Instead, it is about devoting myself completely to Him, submitting wholly to His will, and seeking to please Him above all else. It demands dying to self and following the Master, no matter the cost. In other words, to be a Christian is to be Christ’s slave^[1].” Therefore, a Christian’s life and beliefs are all influenced by Christ, including the way they seek to lead others.

Being a slave to Christ influences the direction that Christians, as leaders, take. In this regard, Christians want to lead others to achieve personal liberation, satisfaction, and fulfillment that are bound by evangelical Christianity. Therefore, Christians, as slaves of Christ, only wish to lead others in a Christian way. Consequently, world values associated with leadership are seldom considered.

Being a slave to Christ also makes Christians want to lead others while utilizing spiritual powers. In this regard, they want to rely on Christ when solving issues that may arise while also using Christ as the source of all power and decisions. For instance, when Christian leaders encounter challenges, they often look to Christ for solutions rather than trying to utilize earthly abilities. Similarly, decisions made are determined to be the will of God.

Conclusively, being slaves of Christ influences the way Christians seek to lead others by determining their leadership values. In this regard, leadership is carried out according to Christ’s values.  Therefore, Christians seek to lead others in Christ by emulating how Jesus led the disciples. Throughout the leadership process, Christians who are slaves of Christ also focus on ensuring that those they lead do not form any association with the devil.
