Sanchez’s level of bias is clear here, and the readers of The Guardian generally lean more liberal than conservative. For his target audience, what he says is
persuasive. In a few sentences, tell me what Sanchez’s claim is about the recent incidents at the National Butterfly Center (which as re-opened, by the way,
after explaining that they do not intend to be bullied by right-wing groups). Then, in a few more sentences, try to think up possible counterclaims to Sanchez’s
view–this may be difficult because most people probably love the Butterfly Center, but it’s good practice to put yourself in the shoes of others (right-wing
groups) who might see it differently and figure out what they might say instead–and how you would respond. Again, even if we disagree with others’ views,
we probably should give them space in our arguments and respond to them (agreeing with reasons, disagreeing with reasons, or somewhere in between with
reasons). (I say “probably” because some views are so out there, heinous, awful, etc. that maybe they should not be considered–but remember that once we
start censoring, we are no longer a democracy.) Your answer needs to be clearly written enough so I can see that you really understood what you read and
my comments about it.
