New fields in neuroscience are sprouting up empirically, testing real world applications of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis. Researchers at University of Pennsylvania and Duke University promote studying brain wellness by embracing cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual applications of neuroplasticity. There are common slogans used in brain wellness, such as “use it or lose it,” “train it and regain it,” or “adventure prevents dementia.”
In a three–page paper, answer the following:
• Provide specific examples in your own life that would demonstrate brain wellness across the four categories of cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual strategies.
• Define neuroplasticity and neurogenesis in your paper.
• Compare and contrast two timeframes in your own life: How did you think of neuroplasticity as applied to you when you were younger? Contrast this to your current concepts of neuroplasticity and aging.
• What does epigenetic theory (review week one if you need to) and neuroscience teach us in regards to how we live our lives?
