  Describe the arguments favoring strong and egalitarian democracy in the American political thought of the 1700's, as in the assertions of Franklin, Paine (especially), Samuel Adams, the Pennsylvania Constitution, Jefferson, the Anti-Federalists, and the Bill of Rights. What were the strengths of these arguments? What were their weaknesses?
