Code of ethics
Lion’s guide is an organization established by Dale to help other people achieve their goals both at individual level or at professional stage. The organization`s mission is to serve the community through inspiration by motivating those who intend to change their lives and realize their goals. The principal values of the organization include courage, leadership and clarity. The code of conduct of Lions Guide binds all persons working in the organizations, be it employees and the management. The code states:
- Smoking and drug abuse is highly prohibited at the precincts of the organization.
- Lions Guide discourage violence and any form of aggression against any person within its environment.
- Sexual harassment shall not be condoned alongside abdication of roles and duty.
- Every employee discharging his responsibility must do so with utmost integrity.
- All employees must uphold honesty and dedication at all times.
- Every employee and the management shall take personal responsibility for their actions that contravene this code of conduct.
- Corruption shall not be condoned
- Lions Guide value professionalism and competence
- Favoritism is highly discouraged and promotion shall only be by merit
- Lions Guide remains committed to environmental conservation and any conduct to the contrary shall be punished
Why did you include each of the elements?
There are several workplace issues that affect employee productivity and call for immediate redress to make the place safe for every employee regardless of their gender. For instance, gender violence and sexual harassment have been the most dominant issues at workplace that needs policy framework to curb (Persh and Moss, 2020). The code of ethics entails the above elements to secure women and other employees from gender-based violence and sexual harassment. Also, having a policy on integrity is important for purposes of building the organization`s brand and hence attract more customer. The same Applies to integrity in order to make every person accountable for their action at workplace (Persh and Moss, 2020). Imputing personal responsibility for employees makes them develop some sense of responsibility.
Why is a Code of Ethics an important part of every business from an employer standpoint?
Employers prefer to develop the code of ethics due to several reasons. First, it improves the organization`s profit margins because organization with disciplined employees tend to attract more clients and customers (Gotterbarn et al., 2017). The code of ethics builds the company`s reputation in the market, which gives it a competitive advantage over and above other companies offering the same service. Developing a code of ethic also helps in fostering the company`s mission and vision, which in turn helps the company to grow. Code of ethics is therefore important for the employers because it keeps the management and the employees bound to such codes of conducts, which in turn provides security for the assets from destruction (Encio et al., 2017). The code of conduct also creates an environment of law and order, and that is something every employer would be happy about because it enhances service delivery and in turn boost the organization`s reputation.
Why is a Code of Ethics an important part of every business from an employee standpoint?
Employees too benefit a great deal from a working code of ethics. For instance, the code encourages and provides an avenue through which employees can address their ethical dilemmas without resorting to extra-ethical solutions like violence (Encio et al., 2017). It is obvious that employees will have ethical dilemmas almost on daily basis at workplace and therefore the code provides an alternative dispute resolution mechanism. Certain ethical values like honesty and integrity would benefit the employees because it binds the company or organization to affair renumeration policy that is based on equal pay for equal work. It also saves employees from harassment and bullying, especially female employees who have on several occasions been victims of sexual harassment and intimidation (Encio et al., 2017). The code prohibits such behaviors and provides the mechanism with which such employee victims can seek redress.
Once you have written the Code of Ethics, how would you implement to ensure compliance?
One of the challenges that Human Resource managers face with such code of ethics is the implementation of the same. It is one thing to write a good code of ethic, but it remains useless as long as the implementation becomes an issue (Persh and Moss, 2020). The first and most important process in the implementation of the code of ethics is its publication. The organization must ensure it gives every employee a copy of the code or pin it on some open place so that every person can be acquainted with its contents. After publication, the organization must establish the mechanisms with which employees can report breaches in a more confidential way. Also, the organization must include such ethical issues during their training and also when orienting new employees so that they get into the system knowing that they are bound by such (Gotternbarn et al., 2017). The last stage is setting a bord committee to monitor how effective the code could be.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Dale created the Lions Guide to help people develop in terms of personal and professional growth. However, this analysis evaluates the importance of having a code of ethics for both employees and employers. For the employees, the code protects them from harassment while for the employers, it protects their interest by creating an orderly environment which is good for profit-making and also reputation. It is worth noting that having a good code of ethics is nothing if the human resource finds it difficult to implement. As such, this analysis evaluates the procedure of implementing a code of ethics.
