Analysis of Lysistrata
Based on the examination of the Lysistrata, it is mostly about power and the struggle for power. Notably, the men in the story intended to hang onto the power and continue the war that was going on in the city. However, the women in the city who were led by Lysistrata had other goals in mind. In specific, they wanted to increase their power. Whereas men were keen in the history to continue in the fight, women had got tired of what was going on and wanted to use the tools that they had to ensure that they stopped what the men were doing (Wilson and Goldfarb 248). The power was between women who at that time were seen as inferior to men and to those men who wanted to use the power that they had to continue with the war.
One of the reasons as to why I hold that men were the one with power in the story is because of the fact that they were the actual participants in the war. As such, they had the power to stop the war based on what they thought was good for them. Women only sought to increase the power that they had by sexual abstinence. As such, led by Lysistrata, they encouraged their fellows to deny their men sex until the time that they agreed to stop the war (Wilson and Goldfarb 248). Taking such actions meant that they thought they were powerless and thus took such a decision to ensure that could regain some power and make a change which; in this case, was ensuring that the war was stopped.
