Application of Continuous Quality Improvement Discussion
In health care, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) features a process where various healthcare professionals work together to plan and implement an ongoing proactive improvement in the current processes of care with an aim of enhancing or bettering outcomes. CQI helps by optimizing clinical care that is offered to patients by reducing costs to ensure that regulatory requirements are met, and that high quality patient service is offered. This discussion offers an analysis of how I would apply CQI in my current position as a nurse professional.
As a nurse professional, one way in which I apply CQI is through liaising with other professionals to conduct research on how to reduce sepsis and improve patient outcomes. Sepsis is a condition which leads to high mortality rates among patients. Most hospital deaths occur due to complications caused by infections. Thus, it is important to implement an evidence-based care so that approaches which can be used to improve the patient care, and the resulting outcomes can be identified. After this, I monitor the patients and the resulting situation at the facility to determine how many suffered from sepsis, and what was their outcome. If there is no change, or the incidence has increased, then it means that the methods used were not effective. This warrants a different approach that will trigger improvement. After positive changes have been recorded, I will conduct further analysis to identify specific areas of improvement that will further improve patient outcomes.
In conclusion, CQI can be applied by nurses through additional research on the subject being addressed with the aim of triggering positive changes. This research can be done in collaboration with other professionals in various departments. It is a step which will ensure that current procedures are constantly improved, thereby improving patient outcomes and reducing hospital costs.
