n addPopulation of Interest for the Study The population of interest in Li et al.’s (2018) study included patients who had undergone soft tissue mass surgery. It involved use of retrospective patient data, which was drawn from Truven Health MarketScan databases and Multistate commercial insurance claim databases. Data drawn included information on outpatients, inpatients services and data on outpatient drug claims that were made between Jan 2007 to Dec 2014. The patients who had undergone surgical operations at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia were selected as population of interest for the study. The authors utilized a retrospective observation study design. The process of data collection involved computer recordings from May 01, 2016 to May 12, 2016. Gathering patient information was as well drawn from patients’ charts. Those patients whose operations were done at the general operating suite excluding obstetric and cardiac procedures were considered.ressing these downsides, hence facilitating an effective engagement proc
How Were Data Collected? |
Data was retrieved from Truven Health Market-scan databases and Commercial Medicare Supplemental Databases. The study involved use of retrospective patient records that were documented between Jan 2007 and Dec 2014. The authors used Current Procedural Terminology codes to identify patients who undergone trigger finger release operation, carpal tunnel release operation, de Quervain’s release, retinacular and ganglion cyst excision, and soft tissue mass excision. Besides, the codes were used to identify patients who had received preoperative antibiotics and those who did not received preoperative antibiotics. |
Data was collected from KFSH&RC database in retrospective fashion. Date entry was through use of an electronic data recording spreadsheet. Quantitative parameters were reported as standard deviations and means; whereas, percentages and frequencies were used to describe qualitative variables. Excel sheets were used for analysis of data as well as to provide illustrations of the retrieved data. Besides, Excel software was used to represent data in pie charts and bar charts. |
