  1. Assignment One

    Case Study 1:

Read the following & answer the questions.

    Case Study:  Scenario

You are a support worker for a residential aged care facility. Once a week, you help Mrs. Owens do some shopping. Mrs. Owen has arthritis and cannot use her fingers well. She needs help opening her purse and getting money out. She also has trouble remembering things.

    1. What should you do when you are helping Mrs. Owen pay for her shopping?

When helping Mrs Owen pay for her shopping, I would help her open the purse

and get the money out of the purse as she cannot use her fingers well. Besides, I

would help her in noting down the expenses for future reference because of her poor

memory. Also, the poor memory is most likely to affect the ability of Mrs. Owen to

correctly account for the balance. Hence, I would help in accounting for the balance immediately after the payment of the bill.

    1. What would you need to write down?

I would need to note down the date of shopping, the items purchased and their

quantities. I would also indicate the price per item and the total cost of the items.

Finally, I would indicate the total amount paid for the bills and the balance received

    from the payment.

    1. What would you need to say?

I would need to explain to Mrs Owen about all the purchased items in the list and

their quantities, their prices and total cost of all the shopping done. I would also

attach the receipt of payment on the shopping list and explain to her how much

balance has been received from the amount paid for the items.

advising the lovers how to go about their affair as well as advising the other residents

to tone down their sentiments towards the lovers.

    1. Outline the process that Katrina can use in this situation?

Using emotional intelligence, Katrina should first engage Bill and Sally so as to

Barry is living alone after his wife of fifty years died a few months ago. His only income is from the aged pension and because he does not cook, he buys take-away food which sometimes leaves him with insufficient money to pay the gas bill, so he often sits in the winter evenings without heating, covered by a blanket. Barry has no friends and only goes out to appointments or to buy essential items. He is an avid reader, and also spends time in his garden, but lately he has become increasingly despondent, spending long periods of time in bed, and neglecting his personal hygiene

and poor general hygiene and weight loss. The indicators may also be helplessness

    and fear.

To report the abuse, I would call my local trust and request to speak to the

Investigates my concern and take appropriate action to protect Barry.
