Answer

    • Interprofessional collaboration

Emphasis on health care collaboration has shown to yield positive results in improving patient outcomes. This is shown through a decline in morbidity rates, mortality rates, and adverse drug reactions.  Most of the activities in the health care sector require working as a team for successful results to be obtained. The major objective of Interdisciplinary collaboration is to provide holistic care to patients. In this report, I will be discussing what interpersonal relations entails while providing examples.

Communication is effective for desirable outcomes.  The health care system is dependent on our ability to communicate with patients and among health care workers. In the report of (Jenkins, 2019) person to person communication as well as telecommunication, a lot of miscommunications happens between the inter-professional team. An instance that occurred in the hospital involving my night shift duty where I was able to communicate to ward nurses while taking the early morning report on the changes the doctor had made on the patient's care. Hence that is why (Jenkins, 2019) attests to nurses that advocate for documentation; ward rounds, staff meetings, and electronic systems for information management.

Trust and Respect for the health care profession has interdisciplinary collaboration. At the ward, I assisted a physical therapist in patient positioning during his session. (Jenkins, 2019) describes disrespect when a physician fails to acknowledge a nurse’s opinion by giving excuses and reasons. I was able to use the clinical skills I gained during my rotations. The presence of equal power among health care workers results in effective interdisciplinary collaboration. In the past, nurses were often seen as bits of help to the physicians and often were not permitted to raise any concerns they had on the doctor’s notes. (Jenkins, 2019) attests that even in the modern world of medicine, nurses seldom participate in decision making, problem-solving, and provision of innovative ideas. Autonomy is distributed according to the level of education and proficiency. During my rotation, a nurse who was doing her masters confessed it was to get more authority and recognition.

Most health care professions have inadequate knowledge of the roles and duties of the other profession. (Jenkins, 2019) gives an example of a nurse who has a vague knowledge of the activities such as assessment methods and documentation a physical therapist is supposed to do. Therefore, if health care workers had more intricate information on the duties of each other, collaboration would be easier and successful. Additionally, task prioritizing failure may result in poor interdisciplinary collaboration. (Martina et al. 2010) identifies examples of nurses and doctors, who when interacting with the former usually indicate a lack of enough time leaving the former wanting to leave doctors alone by not bothering them.

Interpersonal relations involve collaboration with the patients. During my medical-surgical rotations, we took patient histories which helped in formulating appropriate nursing diagnoses and interventions. Additionally, (Jenkins,2019)  identifies examples where collaboration between nurses and doctors is minimal resulting in distrust in the doctor's ability to provide holistic care to their patients. Additional, drug administration need communication between the doctor’s, pharmacist, and nurses to prove the eight rights of patients; right dosage, right route, right time, right patient, right medication, the right response, right reason, and right documentation. (Jenkins,2019)  states that nurses are the most unimpressed with interdisciplinary collaboration with a turnover rate of seventeen percent according to the 2018 National Health Care Retention. Interdisciplinary collaboration during my clinical rotations has proven to be effective in providing holistic care to patients. (Bosch, 2015)  identifies the change adopted by most hospitals in changing from 8-hour long shift to 12 hour long shifts which showed an improved exchange of information among the nurses.

Answer

Assessing Risk and Reward

The Nissan Motor Company is one of the leading automobile makers in the world. The Japanese carmaker has primarily enjoyed a successful run, allowing it to enter various regional and international markets such as the United States. However, the changing business environment was not favorable to the company in 2019. Notably, the cooperation recorded losses amounting to 7.8%. The experience pushed the management into making tough decisions, requiring almost all of its North American workforce to go for unpaid leaves.

In late 2019, the company announced that the decline in sales necessitated a two-day unpaid leave for the North American workers. The stated days for the vacation were January 2 and 3rd    (Chicago Tribune, 2019).  Notably, this move was a crucial decision for the company because of its conflicting impacts. Whereas on the positive side, it could help the firm minimize expenses, it threatened to affect the public perception of the company regarding employee welfare.

The rewards for the decision involved cutting expenses by not paying the workers on leave, which eventually would translate into reduced expenses. Another reward was that the decision could allow the company to optimize performance by evaluating employee performances then developing new milestones. However, on the low side, the company risked affecting its public image and brand name, especially in the North American market. As per Chakravorti (2010), the way an organization treats its employees influences the firm's public perception. Thus, Nissan risked eliciting a negative public perception. With a distorted public image, the company could fail to revive its declining sales.

I would have advised the management of Nissan to utilize the Predictive Analytic perspective in determining the right decision to take. Ideally, the approach tries to predict what might happen in the future if particular decisions or actions are undertaken at the moment (Traymbak & Aggarwal, 2019). Looking at the situation at Nissan, the company needed to develop a goal such as increasing sales. After that, they would have made decisions aimed at realizing the set goal. In this regard, the predicted outcome could give the management an overview of whether more risks existed or significant rewards could be realized.
