Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Part 1: Developing an Academic and Professional Network

Unless you are a student of 17th-century poetry, you may not be all that familiar with this piece by author John Donne. However, you may be much more familiar with one of its well-known phrases: “No man is an island.”

Academic Success and Professional Development Plan
Introduction
The process of successful completing a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program requires collaboration with different stakeholders who play significant roles in a student’s educational journey. A student pursuing an MSN or nursing program should collaborate with individuals at both academic and professional levels. Through collaboration, students increase their practical understanding by putting knowledge into practice. Besides, interacting with professionals enables MSN program students to understand the professional ethics and practices that will be important in nursing practice. When theoretical knowledge is combined with practical work, effective results are obtained. This paper provides a template for both academic and professional individuals who I feel will effectively support my MSN program and nursing practice. Further, the paper outlines how the chosen individuals will support my MSN program and nursing practice.

1.Jean
FNP-C
Nor Lea General Hospital
Professional
Jean played a significant role in my professional development. She was not only my guidance counselor during the nursing program course but also the first FNP's that I worked with in my nursing career upon completion of her first degree.
Jean has been there for me, she encouraged me on how to face the profession's ups and downs. She also gives me the motivation to thrive even in times of difficulties and achieve the best out of my career (Reeves, 2019).
Jean will play significant roles in my MSN program and nursing practice. First, she made me aware of the challenges in my career, instilled motivation, and prepared me for the ups and downs that I will meet as a professional. She has made me be psychologically, mentally, and physically ready for the challenges in the profession. Today, I have the motivation to thrive towards success.
2.Amanda
Lecturer
St. John’s Nursing School
Academic
Amanda has been a lecturer and academic guider. She has been an amazing person to stay in touch with. Many times, Amanda addressed my academic questions and concerns, making me develop a positive attitude towards working hard and achieving my academic dreams. She is a supportive person who facilitated my enrollment at St. John's Nursing School.
Being a supportive person with in-depth counseling skills, I feel that I will need Amanda for the rest of my professional and academic journey. She is passionate about ensuring that I never go down but achieve my life and professional goals. Amanda is someone that I need today and in the future. With her, I will remain focused and encouraged to achieve MSN program goals and attain the best in the nursing practice.
Kean
FNP-C
Nor Lea General Hospital
Professional
Kean is an FNP with advanced nursing skills. Throughout his career, Kean has worked with various healthcare professionals gaining adequate experience to guide individuals taking MSN programs and nursing practice. By working close to Kean, I was able to obtain adequate skills or dealing with family-related health issues. For example, Kean helped understand some of the nursing professional ethics such as confidentiality, being friendly, and offering all services as guided by the profession. Kean also trained me on treating and diagnosing the complex health conditions of the body and mind Carolyn, et al. 2015). As a result, I am mentally and physiologically prepared to work in different setups such as hospitals, clinics, private homes, and make essential policy decisions relating to health and nursing practice.
Kean helped me learn the importance of laying a strong emphasis on prevention and wellness of patients. Further, through him, I learned the need of providing treatment for patients, without ignoring anything from mild ailments to serious conditions that may affect individuals in a family. In short, the skills imparted into me by Kean will help me understand how to deal with different people in families, including children and grandparents. The skills of dealing with families are essential for both MSN programs and the entire nursing practice.
Patrick
Nurse Aesthesis
Jackson Health Systems
Professional
Patrick plays an essential role as a medical aesthetic nurse. He works autonomously to make clinical decisions relating to physical assessment and comprehensive consultations (Greveson, 2014). Patrick instilled passion and the spirit of commitment when dealing with cosmetic/ aesthetic issues (International Union of Aesthetic Medicine, 2020). These skills will make great professionals when dealing with an aesthetic patient in the future.
Claudia
Student
Grand Canyon University
Academic
Claudia remains a close friend and constant contact throughout my academic journey and MSN program. She is always available to reach out to when I am in dire need of academic advice. Besides, Claudia has provided helpful information to get the best of the MSN program and nursing career
Conclusion
Collaboration is key to achieving academic and professional success. Nursing practice requires an individual to learn from others and understand various skills and work ethics. I feel that the people I have interacted within both the academic and professional field will be effective to help put my theoretical knowledge into practice throughout the MSN program and nursing practice.
