Barriers nursing practice and healthy people
The Institute of Medicine has stated a goal that 90% of practice be evidence-based by 2020. According to HealthyPeople.gov, the United States is currently at approximately 15%. Discuss two barriers that might hold nursing practice from achieving this goal and suggest ways in which identified barriers may be addressed.

Barriers to Evidence-Based Practice and their Mitigation Measures.
Over the years, the U.S. healthcare system has been faced with the problem of delivering quality, affordable and patient-centered health care services. This is partly because evidence-based practice, which is a strategy believed to be the most effective problem-solving approach to patient care, has not been applied adequately across the system (Laari and Duma, 2020). In this regard, the focus of this short essay is to examine some of the barriers to nursing practice, and ways in which they can be mitigated.
According to Chan et al. (2020), human and organizational factors are the primary barriers to evidence-based practice. Notably, most nurses lack time to read health care literature and research findings. Evidence-based practice demands that nurses have to keep reading so as to learn new and effective ways of dealing with evolving illnesses as well as remain updated with the current trends in technology. Reading and understanding scientific literature can enable them to elucidate the motivating and deterring factors in the healthcare system. This barrier can be overcome by providing nurses with enough time to study or review findings from evidence-based nursing research studies. Further, the industry should provide nurses with incentives that will enhance their engagement in nursing literature as well as create a culture of academic inquiry (Maniago, Almazan & Albougami, 2020).
Another barrier to evidence-based practice in the U.S. healthcare system is the issue of insufficient nursing staff. This inadequate staffing leads to high workload among nurses, which consequently breeds stress and burnout. As a result, nurses are unable to provide individualized health care aimed at promoting patient outcomes, which is one of the key pillars of evidence-based practice. To mitigate this barrier, there is need for stakeholders in healthcare system to fully support the adoption of evidence-based interventions in all public healthcare facilities across the country through adequate staffing and funding.
