Answer

Benchmark: A Christian Perspective in Mission and Vision

A biblical worldview, also referred to as a Christian worldview, provides an insight into the framework of beliefs and ideas through which a person, culture or an individual interprets the world also interacts with it. Several Christian denominations have varied worldviews on some of the factors as guided by the biblical interpretation and its thematic elements (Fensham, 2013). Walt Disney is one of the prominent companies within the field of entertainment. The company’s mission, business practices and vision are examples of factors which can be influenced by the Christian Worldview. The purpose of this paper is to examine how Walt Disney’s mission, vision and values are influenced by the Christian World view.

Walt Disney’s Mission and Vision Statements

Mission Statement

The mission of the firm is, “Using our portfolio of brands to differentiate our content, services and consumer products, we seek to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world” (William, 2019, para 3). According to the firm’s website, its fundamental mission is “is to entertain, inform and inspire people around the globe through the power of unparalleled storytelling, reflecting the iconic brands, creative minds and innovative technologies that make ours the world’s premier entertainment company” (The Walt Disney Company, 2020, para 1).

‘Content, consumer products, and services’ is an example of an element of the firm’s mission statement which provides a reflection of its focus on attaining a greater social good. Notably, through its products and services, the business can be able to generate revenue which is important towards achieving its corporate social responsibility requirements such as community building. Developing profitable, innovative, and creative products is also an element of the firm’s mission statement which suggests that the business seeks to provide its customers with quality products, an aspect which matches the value for their money.

With the discussed elements of the mission statement, it is evident that the factors provide a defining of the ethics, culture, fundamental goals and values of the firm which can be applied to benefit different stakeholders, such as the staff and the members of the community. David, David, and David (2020) states that an effective mission statement should always align with the values of the business.

Vision Statement

Walt Disney’s corporate vision is being “one of the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment and information” (William, 2019, para 4). The firm’s vision statement provides an indication of the nature of the business and its strategic management, as associated with its market scope. To be the “leading producers and providers” is a fundamental element of the firm’s vision statement suggesting a greater common good. This element shows that the firm is focused on achieving a greater social good by focusing its efforts on the production of high quality and desirable products and services in comparison to other market players to meet the goals of the business.

The Elements of a Christian Worldview

Walt Disney’s commitment to achieving a greater social good is associated with the elements of Christian worldview. God is a fundamental element of the worldview since God is the creator of everything and He lives among people (Hebrews 11:6 King James Version). Notably, focusing its mission and values towards a common social good suggests that the firm is working to achieve God’s power and his holiness (Cupitt, 2000). The universe is also a fundamental aspect of the Christian worldview seen in Walt Disney’s action to achieve a greater social good. It is a fact that God created the universe through order and structure. As a result, entities should strive to safeguard it rather than destroy it. By focusing its activities to ensure that it meets its Corporate Social Responsibility requirements, Walt Disney is effectively fulfilling the requirement of effectively maintaining the universe for a desirable outcome.

Human dignity is also a fundamental element of the Christian worldview which Walt Disney observes through its delivery of products and services focused on achieving a common social good. All humans are known to carry natural dignity and any event or activity to tarnish it constitutes sin (Cupitt, 2000). Through a vision to become the leading producer and provider, it is evident that Walt Disney is focused on delivering only quality services with an attention on maintaining human dignity.

The Company’s Practices

The company’s practices are also consistent with the Christian worldview. Evidently, the firm focuses on effective practices which are in line with the delivery of desirable goods and services to ensure that the firm delivers quality focused on observing human dignity. Moreover, desirable CSR practices, such as ensuring that the firm’s production efforts do not affect the environment are effective in ensuring that the business achieves the requirements of the Christian worldview as depicted under the universe element (Van der Walt, 2017).

Conclusion

Conclusively, the mission, vision and Walt Disney’s business practices are in line with the Christian worldview. This is based on the fact that the firm strives to function effectively to observe human dignity and accept the fact that God is in existence. The company’s business practices are in line with achieving its corporate social responsibilities and observing a safe environment suggesting that the firm focuses on achieving its set Christian obligations as guided biblically.
