Answer

Difference between Informal and Formal Writing and Essence of Listening Skills

Question One: Difference between formal and Informal Writing

Writing between casual friends such as sending of emails, texting or instant messages differs significantly from the writing between professional experts at their work places. Firstly, causal writing between friends or class mates through emails, texting of instant messages follows no standard formats or structure. In other words, there is no indication of addresses, salutation, and subject of writing, introduction, body of message, closing and signing off. Professional wring at the place of work on the other hand follows this kind of structure and adheres to it. Secondly, writing between casual friends or classmates would be colloquial or casual. In other words, words are not necessarily used for their formal meaning, spelling can be contravened without inconveniencing the parties involved, short hand words can be used for examples writing “Thx” for “Thanks” of “n” to mean “and”. Additionally, emoji can be used to add emotional expressions. Lastly, writing between classmates can also mix languages as long as both the sender and the recipient understand the language. The use of slang is equally common. In professional workplace writing however, is strictly formal and as such there is no use of slang, misspelling, mixed languages or use of shorthand writing.

Question Two: Importance of Listening Skills

Listening is the ability of a person to accurately receive and decode a message in the process of communication. Effective communicating depends substantially on listening skills. It’s only through proper listening that a message can be safe from misunderstanding. It is therefore essential that listening skills be given priority to prevent communication breakdown.  Listening skills can lead to better relationship between executives, supervisors, and employees. Additionally listening skills can also lead to increased sharing of information, better customer satisfaction, smooth and greater productivity, and lesser communication related mistakes. Employees particularly need the best listening skills because in most cases, employees link the customers to the executives sand supervisors. In other words, employees take most of the instructions both from supervisors, executives and customers as well. They therefore need the best listening skills.
