        1. Description/Major Facts

          Some of the significant ways of improving an organization’s performance include acquisition, change of organizational structure and management, and expanding or moving certain department to areas with potential customers that experience little or no competition. In the case of Sarin Pharmanceuticals Ltd, the organization wanted to move one of its major divisions, animal health division, which is responsible for the development and production of medicines for poultry, livestock, and pets from France to Vancouver, Canada (Johnson, 2014). The animal health division focused on eight products that were the center of this transfer. However, it was suggested that the animal health division in France was to increase its production to satisfy the demands until the Vancouver plant could provide adequate supply. However, it was found that the plant in France could not manufacture the products as stipulated as a result of low morale and low production rates.

          In addition, the French regulation also restricted the company from exceeding the limit since it may compromise the quality, which is a serious offence, owing to the nature of products the firm produces (Johnson, 2014). It, therefore, suggested that the transition to Vancouver would have to be achieved as early as possible to prevent product shortage. In order to sufficiently produce the eight products in their new plant, the supplies of manufacturing products such syringes, labeling materials, and chemicals must meet the demand of production. However, this is a challenge due to the procedure of procurement that follows stringent measures, hence time consuming and may not meet an increased level of production that the company’s director anticipate.

           

          Major Problem (Immediate Issue Identification)

          The major problem in this case is acquisition of enough manufacturing products such as syringes, chemicals, packaging materials and labels for efficient and timely production. It is important to note that the procurement process of materials by Sarin Pharmanceuticals follows not only many but also complex procedures that require more time. Being an organization that deals with health of humans as well animals, all the equipment must meet the required standards after following the correct and mandatory procedures. However, in the event that the firm wants to produce more products to meet the demand, there is likelihood of lack of supplies for manufacturing processes. In that regard, there is possibility that the firm will not meet the demands of consumers as a result of projected low production.

          Possible Solutions

          1. Sarin Pharmanceuticals should increase the number of suppliers from 300 to 400
          2. Advice the existing suppliers to increase their supplies to meet the demand of the firm.
          3. Work with the limited supplies from the existing suppliers.

          Option A advantages

          • Increased volume of raw materials to manufacture the required products

          Choice and Rationale

          Choice A

          Sarin Pharmanceuticals should increase the number of suppliers from 300 to 400.

          For a successful transition, the plant must increase its production; however, this depends on the supplies and the status of suppliers.  It is in this context that increasing the number of suppliers while working with the existing ones will be very important for efficient and timely production. While having other suppliers on board may be time-consuming as a result of complex procurement methods, it is obvious that the existing suppliers can bridge the gap while the process of approving other suppliers is in progress. Additionally, the existing suppliers already know the standards of manufacturing materials, such as chemicals, hence the quality may not be compromised. As compared with option B and C, the need for more suppliers is a mandatory since the company is relocating to another geographical area where some existing suppliers might not be comfortable with.

          Implementation

          Supplier choice is a thought-provoking task along the supply chain and is grounded on certain significant criteria to choose the correct supplier and maintain a long and proper relationship (Dey & Saha, 2018). In order to select the right supplier, Sarin Pharmanceuticals may use either quantitative or qualitative methods (Lysons & Farrington, 2016). In this particular case, Sarin Pharmanceuticals, through its procurement personnel and procedures, must initiate the process according to rules of the company that are detailed within the organizational procurement department. However, this must be done within the shortest time possible in order to ensure that needed manufacturing materials are available at the correct time for efficient production.
