Case Study Analysis

Over the years, Memorial Hermann System hospital has been operating proficiently to serve Huston area in the hospital inpatient market. Through their skilful management, they have employed 21, 000 workers in 129 locations. However, they have still exhibited some problems in their operations that have hindered them from attaining much of their goals. For instance, service in two payment environments, expanding and changing the administration to contain the whole range of care, expanding case executive, increasing the primary care physicians, and engaging in physical control advancement are significant concerns that the organization has faced (Moore, 2011). Nonetheless, they have incorporated different management skills, personnel through specialization, and division of labor and specialization in various departments to attain the competitive advantage that they have maintained over the years.

Background

Proficient critical elements have enhanced quality services and advancement over the years in Memorial Hermann health Centre.  For example, the board, administration, and physician leadership have been committed to changing the organization through skillful operations. They have shifted their primary concern from enhancing a market position and monetary potency to building a business that can flourish in an environment where donors are more responsible and concerned about a positive performance of the institution.

In 2011, the Memorial Hermann directors stated that the area capacity of the institution was 4, 000 beds over the required ones during that period. Additionally, there were plans underway to increase the number of acute-care hospitals for the people.  In the same year, the organization had 1000 of the 2,920 system great beds empty in most of their times (Moore, 2011). The strategy revealed their preparedness to handle a significant amount of patients. The executives of the institution believed that the best way to succeed would be to become more incorporated. They needed to evaluate the excellence and cost of post-acute care source in their operations.

Another dominant strategy to improve Memorial Hermann was to change it into an efficient clinically incorporated system.  In 2006 when the organization chose to be more clinically included, it offered all the doctors of their Independent Practice Association (IPA) the prospect to be clinically involved in the center. There were 3,600 physicians, and 2000 of the IPA doctors take action. Most of the doctors in the Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) had to meet specific requirements. For instance, they have to follow particular evidence-based strategies, to account for their data entry in every month, to discuss the institution information and, advance towards an ordinary Electronic Health Record (EHR) (Moore, 2011). Moreover, the clinically included system stated that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) affirmed that, it qualifies in all the factors to be approved.

Alternatives

Extending the case management is a challenge to the organization need to be addressed. Most of the patients lack health checks managers. Therefore, there should be a plan to increase them since they take care of patients, a significant objective that has to be implemented (Naftelberg et al., 2015). A follow up by physicians is also essential to understand the progress of patients and how they are taking their drugs. Personally, I chose this challenge since it deals with the life of people, which is a significant goal of the centre. The major aim of the center is to improve the health conditions of the patients and not to deteriorate them.

Adding primary care physicians is also another challenge that should be addressed by the administration’s move to increase the proficiency of the institution. The institution should team up with the doctors and develop a significant care network. Having a high number of physicians do not only increase the ability of the organization to handle more patients but also enhances the ability to understand different ailments patients have (Lewis et al. 2016). I choose this factor since personnel is an issue that needs to be tackled for the benefit of the patients.

Recommendations

Engaging the physicians in all aspects of the institution operations is a principal factor that can enhance a viable process for the organization. It helps the health fraternity and the physicians to understand all the plans of the system, increase productivity, and adeptness (Hughes et al. 2015).  In most institutions, there is no proper strategy of communication, and the person fails to work towards the common goal of the organization.  There should be an apparent involvement of everyone to share the ideas and plans (Kalia et al. 2016). Additionally, people can lay down similar objectives that they work hard to achieve. I chose such a recommendation since teamwork is an inevitable aspect of any organization. People can work towards a common set goal. Such strategy requires dedication and communication in all the departments to ensure that all people are reached. However, my recommendation does address the means of communication which can be used to achieve different people and units since there are many reliable methods.

In general, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System is a significant health institution characterized by a skilled management, and board of physicians for the betterment of the people. The body has enhanced different strategies in developing ornamental medical technology for a long time. The policy is aimed at improving the live hood of the people. However, they still face a lot of challenges in their operations such as operating in two payment conscription, and failure to appoint physicians in the management development. Such drawbacks may contribute to a breakdown of the organization.
