Challenges to Diversity
Race is a classification made up by human beings without scientific support that views different people population groups as either superior or inferior based on their geographical origin or external physical characteristics. In this paper, I will look into the ideology of race and its effects on humankind in detail.
The concept of race generalizes white people as the more superior group, and people of color end up being inferior, especially the black people. All the grouping directly connects to external features like hair texture and skin tone, without any biological support. The downside of racial differences is that the inferior groups often get unfair treatment. People of African descent experienced American slavery for years dating back to the 17th century, where they received brutal treatment. Until today, however, they, unfortunately, have never gotten equal treatment to the rest of the population in the United States.
It is such a shame that people of color go through so much free exclusion that finding standard services like hotels and restaurants to the extent of receiving wrong and made-up information to shun them. Freedom of expression is limited to people of color, as James states that (TEDx Talks,2014) there are consequences of rage, and to keep being alive, one must not challenge what authorities advise them to do. The concept of race has negatively impacted the people of color as it causes them mental stress of being treated differently from others because of their permanent external features. On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence’s adaptation was made by the Second Continental Progress, whose chief author was Thomas Jefferson (Wills, 2016). However, the author of the Declaration of Independence himself held slaves (Paradox of Liberty, n.d.). The hypocrisy in fighting racism has had adverse effects on black people. The word spread is not always the truth, making the public have false information about reality.
From my experience and observation of racial discrimination, I take constructive responses to handle the issues by stepping forward and openly condemning racist acts and acting as an example to others by not being racist.
