Childhood Memories

Assignment 1

My world began in a small coastal city known as Ningbo located in China. Currently, the city is briskly growing with more than five million persons within it. Ningbo has seven thousand years old history which allows tourists to embrace both a culturally and exciting stimulating city. Being one of the China’s earliest cities, Ningbo has experienced the fall and rise of several dynasties. The city represents the Hemudu Culture birthplace which has significantly contributed to the city’s performance within the country (Jin & Kostopoulos, 2015). The city has been a vital port for both foreign and internal trade and has become one of the top-three ports in the Republic of China, efficaciously utilizing its strategic setting for water transport.  The Ningbo city means a lot to me since it is where I was brought up, schooled, and currently stays. When I was growing up, my friends and I used to enjoy the humid and temperate weather in the city since the region is subject to sub-tropical monsoon climate. At that particular time, the local individuals used to produce a lot of handicrafts, for example, animal and screen figurines as well as hand-plaited bamboo cans or vases. The GU Mu Xingjian, bamboo sculpture as well as bamboo root carving revealed the local craft characters during those days.

The early civilizations which lived and thrived in the region have significantly contributed making the Ningbo city what it is currently, that is an economically well-developed town with an intense cultural foundation. Thirty years from now the city would have grown to a significant area offering various services presently provided by the capital city. I would like to see several flights operating in the city having both abroad and home destinations, for example, Shenzhen, Kunming, Beijing as well as Shanghai. I would also like to see several railways apart from the present Ningbo Railway Station. Notably, in thirty years from now, the city will be a place where everyone would wish to live since its economy would have significantly gown. The city would appear as a superb place for an outsider due to its historical temples, for instance, Baoguo temple and Ashoka temple. Any outsider will also appreciate some of the season-specific restaurants and resorts within the city including the area of Tianhe Scenic as well as the area in Xuedou Mountain.

Some of the places I am aware of which might be strange to a visitor include the Nantag Old Street and Zoumatang Ancient Village (Jin & Kostopoulos, 2015). These places are located in hidden parts of the city where most people have never gone.  Subsequently, the city has profoundly shaped me due to its superb form of education. I have been able to school in the town through the primary, secondary as well as the university. I see myself having a brighter future due to the exposure within the city. The city has dramatically influenced the way I view the world regarding religion, history as well as economy.  Ningbo has more fabulous places to discover and a wealth of history. It is important to note that the reason why I can disparage Ningbo is due to its cultural practices which existed from the ancient up to today.

Assignment 2

Question 1

“A Child’s Christmas in Wales” can be classified as a prose poem. This piece of writing doesn’t have a restricted narrative structure; however, it utilizes descriptive passages tailored to establish a poignant nostalgia. This style is quite important since it allows the flow of the poem; therefore, the readers find it easy to understand and comprehend the poem.

Question 2

The tale is narrated from the viewpoint of the poet trying to recount a festive season while a young child, in a much fictionalized autobiographical style. For example, in the first verse, Thomas looks for wistful western belief upon charismas. For instance, he says that “it was snowing, it was usually at charismas” (Thomas & Raschka, 2004) Advancing his tranquil memory of past childhood, he describes the snow as being more exciting and better, than the snow he sees at the adult age. The story shows how children value Christmas and would not long to be left out during such festive season.

Question 3

The writer assumes a Christian background in most parts of the poem. He identifies Christians as the people who actively value and participate in the Christmas.  For example, Mr. Prothero stands in the middle of the room and says that it is an excellent Christmas and smacks at the smoke with a slipper. This shows his Christianity as well as his value of Christmas. Notably, individuals without the Christian background can find it a bit challenging to relate to this prose poem due to their weak understanding of Christianity, particularly the Christmas.

Assignment 3

Having been brought up in a middle-class family where luxury was an opportunity, Christmas day was being waited with eager since on that day; most of my requests were met by my parents. It is the only day that I could ask for the most expensive toy, and dad could not object. As such, this day always came with lots of surprises from my parents to the extent that I wanted it to be after every four months; however, in my mind, I knew that was an incredible imagination. This particular, Christmas, little had been done since there was no apparent preparation as compared to the previous ones. I did not know whether it was going to be as any other day or there were positive surprises which were awaiting me.

By six in the morning, I heard a vehicle entering our compound, this was not normal, and then I had to peep from my room and check who was it. I was surprised! All my cousins were in tour guide vehicle-things I have been watching on a TV. Going through the living room, I found when my mother had packed for me my clothes for this particular tour. I was surprised. It had never been like this. We drove through a national park where we saw all types of animals that I had been longing to see. While I had wanted to see most animals, seeing kangaroo carrying its young in poach the most exciting scene that remained in my mind up to date. I realized that Gods creation were terrific.

Storing with my cousins during the tour, I knew this surprise would end immediately after visiting the national park. However, the unexpected occurred. It extended up to the following morning. We went to one of the forests around the park and camped there for the whole night. Although most of the Christmas seasons have been good, this one stood out to be the most interesting. This one majored on nature, which made me love animals up to date.  Due to surprises and how Christmas was being handled in our family, it remains one of the most beautiful days in my life.
